Having had this player for 16 months it has only refused two dics on the first attempt. Both were DVDs one being The Living Daylights and the other was Starfleet. The Player had to be switched off and then start up as normal. It then accepted the discs. The most recent Blu Rays that have been played is Australia, Valkyrie and Bolt. Admittedly I do not have BD Live but it is testiment to Panasonic that the BD30 works fine without any Firmware updates on older and newer material.

Would a member of the Forum be interested in doing a comparison who possesses a BD30 Player but who has utilised the firmware updates, to help establish the reliability of this product.

I've got the BD30 and wouldn't dream of doing a firmware!

Tried before and had to speak to PANASONIC direct to get it resolved

The guy told me it was a complete waste of time unless i was a "guige"

Never had a problem playing any disc (go to blockbusters every weekend for the latest films) and it does me fine

I bought it for 1.1 PIP, but can't really say I'm bothered about it

Certainly not interested in 2.0 with BD live!

Saw a few discs with friends who have BD60 with BD live and I cant honestly say its a big deal

Just being honest

I've got a DMP-BD30 and it's been a very good machine. Never had a problem loading any discs so far (touch wood). I've kept my Firmware up to date and it's now on version 2.3. I can't say that there's been any night/day differences with the firmware updates, but the machine has seemed to get more solid over time. When I first got it the HDMI handshake on startup and when starting a Disc took a long time and this particular part of the process has quickened up a bit, but even still startup is a great time to go make a cup of tea. I've been quite happy with my machine and it will live on with a secondary TV whenever I replace it. I'm quite tempted by the new OPPO, lightening fast boot times and universal disc compatibility- woohoo! But the great service that this deck has put in makes it easy to wait until the right product comes along at the right price before I pony up to replace it.

...and I got mine when they first started shipping in the UK!

I have kept my firmware up to date and now I am on version 2.4.
That is from the main panasonic site in japan for a UK BD30 and not the uk web site, as that only has v2.3.

Not that I have ever had any reason to update the firmware.

The old maxim "if its not broke don't fix it" does spring to mind.

Thanks for the replies so we can all safely say it is a reliable machine irrespective if firmware has been utilised.

Has anyone used a lens cleaner or could they recommend a suitable product?

Hi, got a bd30 myself. It's cheap and does what it's meant to do rather well. The only disc that i cant play on it is my bloody valentine, blu-ray, which is no great loss.
