Can anyone shed any light on the above 2 tv's from Panasonic, in therms of price and performance?

I thought the 42PZ85B was their top level 42" Plasma but looking at the price of the 42PZ800B you would think this is the top 42" set, tis around £1500 online.

Is this because the the 42PZ800B is new out, so costs more?

The PZ800 is the top of the range 42" which has a full glass screen, better on board sound, support for deep colour and an extra HDMI socket, as a summary of the differences over the PZ85. These are the reasons that it is more expensive.

The 42PZ800 should now be physically available at some retailers.

well, the 800 should also have a more detailed colour (gray) gradation, from 4096 to 5120, and in the US it has been certified THX. But it seems they won't use the THX certification on pz800e(uropean), possibly simply for marketing/cost optimisation reasons.

and btw the 800 is the top of the range only in europe, since the US/Japan market will see the 850 as well, with professional calibration capabilities, say "Pioneer-like".

cheers
