Hi Seanie

There are so many models in the Panasonic range, we haven't got round to testing these two I'm afraid. But I've pulled together a direct comparison of the tech specs of the two models from Panasonic's own website here, so you can check them out.

Main differences are that the PZ800 supports Deep Colour and x.v. Colour via HDMI, has Panasonic's Smart Sound speaker system with SRS TruSurround XT and comes with a card slot for Top-Up TV and the like. Hope that helps.

Hi Andy

Thanks for the link, as you say it looks like to only difference is the sound, in your opinion ( and andone else who feels like saying ) if you had the choice what would you go for?

I guess it depends how much the beefed-up sound of the PZ800 matters to you. Will you be using the TV on its own, or with an external surround sound system?

I think i will be using the TV on its own for the moment, with 2 youg kids & the thoughts of pencils stuck on the speakers scare me.

Have you any dates as to when these will be tested & reviewed?

I bought the TH 42PZ80 and am really happy with it.

You could use the money that you'd save on buying the PZ80 to get a stereo system to play the sound through if that was important to you.

If you're worried about the speakers being a canvas for your kids artwork, don't you have the same issues with peanut butter being smeared over the TV screen, or toast being wedged into the DVD player?!!!

darn it!!! now you have thrown another spanner in the works......

I quite like the faint smell of warm peanut butter smeared over a warm screen..hmmm smell o vision.

I might wait until these are reviewd & see what bargains i can get in the xmas sales.only 83 days left until xmas

Hmmmm, think I might have to smear some Nutella on my Panny the next time Vicki Butler-Henderson is on ....

Some people (particularly on Amazon) have slated the sound on the PZ80 which I think is unfair - it's perfectly OK. If I'm watching films late at night then I don't feel that cheated by not running it through the hi-fi.

Yes it sounds better through a stereo, but I'm not interested in having my neighbours feel every bong of the News at Ten reverberating through my flat either. Horses for courses and all that.

By the way, some of the main Panny dealers are offering 5 years warranty for no charge. Last I heard it was ending in September, but before that, it was supposed to end in August ... !
