Well...after several posts on what new cartridge to get for my turntable I have settled for a cheaper option and just bought the replacement stylus 2M blue. As I have heard very good things about it and I like the 2M red already, I think it's a good choice. As anyone else gone from the red to the blue and noticed a step up in performance? I have read Floyd's post(which is good)..but anyone else with such an experience? I'm having an operation tomorrow so will have loads of time during recovery to enjoy it with my vinyl 🙂

Yes.

It wll sound better than the red immediately. Give it about 20 hours of playing time and it will suprise you how good it is.

Brilliant! I have just realised, was it your post or Floyd Droid's?...might have got that one wrong

Sorry Chebby, I meant to ask you when you changed from the red to blue- did you notice an improvement in the upper frequencies. On the red I get some sibilance (which I hate...and hate is a strong word) on some records which surely can't be normal and upon reading further reviews and forums of people saying th that blue got rid of this because it can, essentially, track the record groove better? Your input would be appreciated

Actually the sibilance pretty much disppeared after changing to the 2M Red (from a Rega Bias 2).

This may be due to obsessive set-up and alignment. I opted for 'Stephenson for Rega' geometry (rather than 'Baerwald for Rega') which slightly favours those end-of-side LP tracks where sibilance can be more problematic. I also used my Shure SFG-2 (stylus force gauge) to set tracking weight more accurately rather than rely on the Rega instructions.

Yes, the 2M Blue improved things all round. More detail, smoother, and with tighter bass. I was not aware of any ssssibilansssth.

Probably due to the 'nude' diamond of the 2M Blue as opposed to the higher mass 'shanked' diamond on the 2M Red.

Sounds great- will have to wait until the 27 Sep to get it though...I am sure it is worth the wait 🙂 Thanks for the responses chebby. I will post what I think about it when I have played a few records through the 2M blue...can't wait!

Look forward to reading what your thoughts are - hoping to get one myself before the year's out (probably Christmas at the rate the bills seem to be coming in at lately!)

This seems a bit strange- I sent an e-mail to Musonic because they have taken the £90 from my visa debit card but, as you know, they were out of stock until the 27th. I have received a reply from them advising that they are now closed until the 27th??? This was not mentioned to me when I bought the item so I find it very strange as they have my money but I don't have the 2M blue replacement stylus!! Does this sound fishy to you???

The Dino is just fantastic- a very good purchase in the end and pretty much future proof for any other cartridges I would like to try eventually 🙂 I'm happy the Dino!!

Don't know about fishy - just had a look at their website and they do say on the front page they are "on annual leave" antil the 27th. Don't know the company (other than the fact that they are the only retailer I know of that sells the 2M Blue for under £100) but that does imply it's a small operation - family run business maybe?

Poor form to take your money up front though - and as they're away it doesn't give you much scope to shop elsewhere in the meantime should you so desire!

yeah, poor form indeed. Surely any company or business should only take any money from the buyer of goods until delivered. Oh well, I am pretty stuck now like you said, so will have to wait for the 27th as they left me no option and they got me by the cahonas (they are cheaper than any supplier & they have my money)

First 2M Blue was defective (of which someone else here had a similar thing happen) replaced without quible and it sounds very good. Without question it has better inner groove tracking (the nude mounting reducing tip mass to the point where inner groove nasties disappear) and less vocal sibilance than Ortofon 2M Red, it is actually my favorite of the 2M range though I have not tried the Bronze, only the Red, Blue, and Black. The Ortofon 2M Blue is really something at the asking price. Btw Dark side of Moon has sibilance in the recording, it will vary from copy to copy, I even remember the band members talking about the sibilance on a video somewhere (live at Pompei? not sure it's been a long time), it also has some overload distortion. It's a very good rock recording for the time but one might question its use as a reference recording to evaluate gear.
