optical out?

Hi all,

just wondered if someone can confirm something for me, my cd player has an optical out on the rear of it. Does this mean if i connect this to a dac or a set of active speakers, it will bypass the onboard dac of the cd player?

or have i got this totally wrong??

Yes to the DAC,and yes to the active speaker's,so long as the active speakers have an inbuilt DAC.
