I'd be very interested in your experience with the 105 as a streamer. Like you I use a Synology NAS and I'm thinking of buying the Oppo as both a disc spinner for films and streaming duties for music.
105 is a very good streamer. There are many ways to do this using DLNA server etc. The best I found is that 105 accesses NAS as a storage and plays the files directly. This sounds simple but like many other players, 105 has a limitation with Apple Lossless file playback. So, if you have all your music in FLAC or mp3 then it is fine but otherwise, then you have to have some kind of server running on Synology to make the data read and package into a format understandable by Oppo and this is where there is loss in quality.
The second possibility is to have Mac Mini in picture, where iTunes on Mac Mini in Bit perfect outs via USB to DAC of Oppo which sounds woderful too. The only reason to do is because of the front end software as Oppo interface when accesing the Folders / Files on NAS feels like 90's
I have not yet seen how it looks like the Oppo app on iPad and I will update on this once I get the player. Also, I will get back on the playability of DSD from network directly.
