Great review guys!

Exactly my thoughts too, it's just great. The Darbee processing is news to me too, be great if it does though.

WHF Reviews are a joke these days, just like the magazine, and so best to ignore anything they say, and treat it as a comedy review.

There is no Darbee processing mentioned on the Oppo Website, however a picture of the upcoming 205 is shown, which is due out later this year.

To be honest, if WHF disappeared (Including the forum) I doubt if anyone would shed a tear or even notice.

It’s disappointing how a once great mag, has now become mediocre.

People make mistakes but it should be being checked for errors - yesterday the Sony VW550 is a great buy at £6k when its more like £10k and today the mention of darbee is wrong its not in this player.

These are quite basic things really and it should be checked as part of things surely.

I dont think as you at all Bill - I just think someone needs pulling up and saying c'mon. if you want me to start reviewing the kit for you WHF I happily will. Ship me the VW550 and UDP203 and I will give you good run down on how they perform - be my pleasure :)

AV Forums review out too:

I really can't see how Steve found it the same as the Panasonic ub900!

The Sony VPL-VW550ES projector was £6000 at the time we tested it just before Christmas (hence the 'Tested At' price of £6000 in the review), Sony has since put its projector prices up massively (£9899 now for the VW550ES). That's Brexit for you folks

Re Darbee processing on the Oppo, I will double check that with the Technical Editor who approves all reviews before they are published.

Andy I really dont think the Sony VW550 was ever £6k - the 500 series have all been around £9k. If it was £6k who would ever buy the VW320 at £6k price? That hasnt come down as a result

Check this review

And this one £8500 December 2016

The price may have gone up but from £8.5k to £9.5k ish after Brexit. I have never seen one at £6k people would be all over it at that price. I think its mistaken with the price of the VW320

Looking into this. Seems there may have been some confusion with the prices we were given by Sony's PR company. They tell us the price of the VW550 is now £9899 so we will amend that on the review.

The Pound has strengthened since before Christmas. It should have come down in price.

Cheers Andy - big part of the review was based on how good it was for the price - that needs to change as well.

Well £4k more is nearly double - at £6k no other manufacturer would sell any high end PJ's imo everyone would buy the Sony.

You might have got it mixed up with the 105d because you were talking about the two.

Manufacturers do not change prices daily based on value of the Pound. The price is decided by the projected value of the Pound in the short term. They will want to ensure they don't want to suffer losses as a result of the falling Pound.

Reading the review and the specs, it appears that the Oppo has more features to adjust picture properties than most regular BDPs. Perhaps the writer was confusing those with Darbee processing, I don't know.

Anyway, at $569 plus delivery here in the US, it's a serious competitor to the Panasonic's, let alone the now heavily discounted Samsung and Phillips offerings.

The answer to your question is the sentence just before when Steve said that! :)
I didn't read all the review, I just skimmed it.

Yep and HMV.

No bargains in John Lewis on clearance though. Did well in HMV though but I will keep that one to myself.
