Which is the best place to buy a plasma tv? Are online retailers reliable? Can anyone recommend where to get the Pioneer 428XD as Currys dont even stock it in their stores?!?!?!

Thanx Clare, one more question.. internet sites seem to offer the pioneer at a much cheaper price, but r they reliable?? Also is the picture on the pioneer 428xd really alot better than the best 1080p LCDs that are on the market, such as the sony bravia kdlw3000??

In a word Ginder, YES! and buy some margin.

Yes, it certainly is - as you'll see from the comparative review of both (and eight other sets) in our current issue. The Sony is a superb set, but the Pioneer is something really special - definitely worth the premium.

Re reliability of internet sites: only buy from where you feel comfortable buying from in terms of price, avaialability and service. If you do buy online, make sure your credit card protects you from any losses/damage (big plasmas can get easily damaged in transit ).

Who are the above????

If you want to save some serious dough then buy online. When I bought my home cinema setup a few years ago(recently uprgraded with a Tosh lcd and Sky hd),I saved approx £4000 on the shop's prices.

Ideally, check out the product in a controlled environment i.e a viewing room and then buy online and save £'s.

Isn't it nice that there are all those convenient viewing rooms in high streets all over the country, where you can spend an hour or so checking out the goods free of charge before nipping home and buying them online?

Sheeesh!

Trouible is, if everyone does this, there'll be fewer and fewer viewing rooms in which to check out the goods before you buy on t'interweb...

Then just maybe someone will ask how come we pay £1000 for the same thing that Americans pay $1000, VAT or no VAT.

And £5 instead of £2 a gallon for fuel, twice as much for food, etc etc... Rip-off Britain anyone?

Lies, damn lies and statistics suggest a median US household income of $36,000-$57,657, which at curent exchange rates is £18,000-£26,000, whereas UK average wage is about £24,700. What that proves is anyone's guess, but a Mini Cooper S is $21,850 in the US - about £10,500 - and £13,000 here.

Oh and the new Subaru Impreza STi will sell for about £27K, or twice what it goes for in Japan.

The world is clearly screwy. If only we were all rich. But then, we'd be normal. Heaven help us!

Whilst risking getting into an economics argument there are many reasons beyond the oft-quoted "Rip-off Britain" why goods cost more in Great Britain than the United States, firstly U.S. Population is 5 times U.K.'s at over 300 million compared to just over 60 million, which allows for greater sales and therefore more scope to negotiate discounts with manufacturers.Secondly U.S. is much larger than U.K. in land mass which makes land plots for retail development cheaper and allows for more "out of town" style electronics stores where profit per item can be lower due to higher turnover. Thirdly, the United States Government doesn't charge anywhere near enough to cover it's spending (leaving it in debt to the tune of $9.1 trillion) which keeps taxes low on all goods and services in the U.S. and depressess overall wage bills, (i.e what it costs to employ someone including any employers contributions to government or state social security projects- for example employers NI contributions in the U.K,) Fourthly, the previously mentioned cost of fuel in the U.S. which is aided by low taxation.

All of these things impact on the cost to the British and American consumer

that doesnt justify high british prices, a ps3 for more than twice the cost? two thirds of the price of fuel is govt tax!

Has anyone used Crampton & Moore? They are offering the Pan TH42-PX70CAB for £1099 with a free five year warranty.

Try www.offeroftheday.co.uk which had the TH42-PX70 with stand at £779.00 yesterday. Each day voucher deals and prices seem to alter, but for best on-line deals on the day they save a bit of 'fingerwork'.

I recently bought a new telly and was looking on line to see what sort of prices they were going for, then i popped into my local shop to see what price they sold them at, the difference wasnt much at all.

In the end I decided to buy in store as i knew that if anything went wrong with the telly i could pop in and see them and talk to them face to face, they also said that if the telly did need to be fixed a courtesy telly could be arranged and delivered, the other good thing about the shop was they offered my 12 months interest free credit, 5yrs guarentee (spl), i even got my telly delivered the day i bought it!
