Hi Guys!

So Im looking for a new AV receiver for my set up and Ive narrowed it down to the Onkyo TX NR515 and the Yamaha V673. Both of them essentially have almost the same features and the price is more or less the same. Currently Im using a Yamaha receiver (cant recall the model number its 8 years old) connected to Wharfedale Diamonds 10.5, Wharfedale Diamond Sub and Wharfedale Diamond SR surround spreakers. I use it mainly to listen to music (mainly dance music like trance and progressive) on a daily basis from my laptop or the DVD player, and watch movies maybe once a week.

Initially I honestly wanted to try something different other than Yamaha, and Onkyo or Denon was my main pick. But based on reviews and all ive managed to narrow it down to Yamaha and Onkyo and everyone i asked told me to stick with Yamaha. Now Im in a huge dillemma about which one to choose, what do you guys suggest?

Your opinions will be very helpfull as i have just one day to make my decision!

Thanks a lot :)

Hi Liberator,

Well I have read user reviews and comments and if you were to judge by them then this receiver is quite good. Apart from that I am looking at this model because it has most of the network features that I am looking for such as Airplay, etc etc and also because I demoed a similar model against a Denon receiver and Yamaha sounded better to me personally, both for music and movies. Hence ive narrowed it down to Yamaha and Onkyo. What do you think? Whats your opinion about these models?

Hi Vicks,

After reading several reviews i was going to purchase the Onkyo TX NR515, as it had every thing that i was looking for and catered for both music and film, also within budget, however after going to the shop the assistant persuaded me to look at Yamaha RXA1010 and the DenonAVR1713, as the Onkyo looses it with music. but wasnt sure if he was trying to palm me off with equipment there trying to shift!

I am in two minds, as the Denon has some very very good reviews, although it is just as good as the Yamaha, its not better.

When i saw your post i hadn't looked at the V673 and from what ive read so far, it seems to have what i'm looking for, but i havnt found great deal of reviews about it, as this is a 2012 model.

At the moment i am leaning towards the Denon AVR1713, but somthing tells me the Yamaha will be better on sound.

Others have said, just get good normal stero amp, as you will get a good sound in 5:1 for film any way.

I did read a bad review regarding the Onkyo, so that has put me of this model, so for me its now between the Denon or the Yamaha

Hi, :O

I am also trying to decide which one of these Amps I should buy. After reading WhatHifi' s review I was on the brink of getting the Onkyo TX NR 515. It was given a 5 star rating and according to the review it was miles ahead from similar priced amps. But I did some research mainly on the Onkyo Us users forum and the amount of complaints Onkyo got regarding their "Hdmi in" system, literally put me off. The complaints have been going on since May, exactly when the 515 was launched. Onkyo have been saying that they were trying to fix the software and in fact they issued a new update on the 10th of Oct (after several others which failed) and at the moment I am still waiting for blogs from users after they updated their system. The software was uploaded on Onkyo's British and European web sites. What amazes me is how this system got such reviews and a lot of people are saying that they bought this Amp after reading the review on What Hifi!!! :O :O
