I was planning on getting the Onkyo TX-NR808, when I bumped into a great deal on the highly regarded Onkyo TX-NR5008.

However, having a 3 x 4.3 meters room, I was planning on getting the B&W 605 Theater speaker package which hosts an average of 100W per speaker. Is coupling this speaker package with the Onkyo TX-NR5008 amplifier outputting 145W/Ch overkill for these speakers? Or would it be considered as a good investment if I need to upgrade my setup at a later stage?

Your feedback is greatly appreciated.

The 5008 is superb and although overkill for your current speakers you wont do them any harm. You will certainly hear the benefits of the better amp with your B&W's - if you are getting a genuine good deal go for it!

I would definitely go for the 5008. I have an Onkyo 905 and B&W 685 Theatre but I use the B&W ASW610 subwoofer and they sound fabulous with bluerays and DVDs.

Good luck

Chris

Yes, my plan is to get the ASW610 as opposed to the ASW608, coupled with the 5008. Now let's just hope the room size doesn't get in the way.

I got a great deal on the TX-NR1008 at Christmas for £864:00, (almost £500 off), so was well pleased; although I still don't have any speakers yet!

How much did you get the TX-NR5008 for then?

The Onkyo is selling for USD1,700 -- The 685s for USD2,400 with the ASW610. The initial concern was the Watt matching. But it seems that it's not much concern assuming I don't crank the volume up to dangerous levels so as to break the speakers.
