Onkyo / Naim Buzzing problem

Just upgraded my Onkyo 605 to the 875 as they are some good deals around and now I can use the pre outs to connect my Naim Nait 5i. Since setting the Nait to unity gain there is a buzing on the front two channels. It is just loud enough to annoy me during some quiter scenes. Has any one had this problem? Any ideas?

Thanks

Keith

I haven't got the set up you have, but i've been considering it ever since i bought the cd 5i. One thing i'd really like to know, before buying, is how well does the the naim intergrate into the soundfeild ( with the exception of the buzzing)? Is there a marked loss in power?I realise this doesn't help your problem, but your knowledge would be very helpful.
Cheers

Loss of power! I dont think so! Quite the opposite I would say! The Naim hits hard with a really good grip over the speakers. Easily a match for the Onkyo then some!

I cant comment on the integration as I have only had the Onkyo a short time so have not had a proper listen to a film yet as I want to get the buzzing sorted first! The early signs are promissing though.

I really do think it is the way to go. I got the Naim second hand for 450 and just got the onkyo brand new for 699! I challenge any one to find a better Stereo and Movie amplification for less than or any where near 1149 pounds!

If your mains cables are too near to the signal ones it will cause this problem. Check and see if tidying up the wiring at the back of the units helps.
Mains borne interference is also exasibated by bad earthing/ground looping, also check plug wiring. (no tracking inside the plug and joints are tight)
If the equipment is new it shouldn't be due to faulty components requiring repair.

Hope this helps

try swapping out the interconnect i had exactley the same problem between a receiver and amp - if the power amp was on but not the receiver i had a buzz but as soon as the receiver was turned on buzz went - swapped out the interconnects and no problemn at all.

Sound silly , but try moving components away from each other as transformers can cause a lot of interference. Good luck!!

Sorted it now! I needed to connect the chassis ground to earth as per connecting a turntable. Silience at last! Oldly the onkyo has no earth through the mains lead.

Just watched my favourite scenes from Transformers and the matrix. Awesome! A real big step from the 605. I think the naim on the front channels just improve it further and it intergrates really well after running the auto calibration. How good is that Reon upscaler! Not only is the image sharper and cleaner but it seems more 3D and colourful too!

A happy man!

Cool, glad to hear you got it sorted.
I've been undecided on whether to go down an av/intergrated combined amp route because i wasn't sure how well they would work together. Now i feel certain that that offers the best in hifi and home cinema for a reasonable price.
One last question though. Do you have to manually set the volume level on your nait everytime you want to watch a movie?ÿ

No. The unity gain mode on the av input of the nait by passes the pre amp stage so when on av input it is just a power amp. I do not know of any other integrated amps that offer a unity gain function though and this is what makes it possible.

Heh - we have been doing that on most Arcam integrated amps for the past 8 years and first offered it on the bigger integrated amps (Delta 290) from the early 1990s.

I believe Arcam can legitimately claim to be the first company to introduce the feature into integrated amplifiers though I would have to confess I saw it implemented earlier on a (very expensive) Mark Levinson pre-amplifier.
