ok im thinking of getting an all in one AV and speaker system from onkyo.

Ive checked their website and theres 3 new systems, but after looking at the spec i cant seem to figure out exactly whats different between the models??

HT-S3405
AVX-390
HT-S5405

they all seem to have 4 HDMI ports, 3 optical inputs, front side usb and comp ports...

im sure im missing something.....can any whizz kid put the differences in laymans terms??

many thanks

Jimmy

HT-S5405 > HTS-3405 - Identical receiver other than sub pre-out on 5405 and different ipod connectivity, same speakers but powered subwoofer. 5405 has digital ipod input and is 'made for ipod'.

HT-S3405 > AVX-390 - Different (presumably better) speakers

thanks

would you therefore draw to the conclusion that the HT-S5405 is the better of these three systems......??

Yes. The 6305 is the highest in the previous line-up as far as I know. I would imagine that there will be a 6405 based on a better spec'd receiver at some point.

I have no idea why there is two different model numbering. It makes no sense.

Basically with the 5405, you're paying for an active sub over the 3405 from what I can see. That is definitely worth considering as it would enable you to upgrade the speakers in the future. The active sub should also offer better SQ. That said, you would have to ask if you would use much more expensive speakers with a receiver at this level.
