Hi

Anyone has any views on the new ONKYO BR925 SYSTEM.

HAS ANYONE COMPARED THIS WITH ANY SIMILARPRICED SYSTEM? THANKS FOR ANY ADVICE

The downside of systems with HD in them is that HD are getting cheaper by the day when hi-fi equipment doesn't fluctuate as much in price. I don't have this unit but I would suggest getting an Onkyo 525 system and plugging in a usb hard drive (it has a front usb port). Look into compatibility as I am not 100% sure if this work, but if does, you will have a much more flexible system, plus you can get a 100Gb+ drive for cheap.

Thanks for the advice, I am wondering about the sound quality of the BR-925, would it be any better than other onkyo models.

I bought a BR925UK model last year from Superfi.

Sound quality is generally very good. DAB seems excellent more so than FM reception oddly,

BUT, it is hopeless, woeful, downright rubbish at its main function of recording CDs on the HD.

For anything modern, e.g Paulo Nuttini, Florence & the Machine, its inbuilt Gracenote database does not recogise the album artist. Sure you can record the album but you cannot see the artist.

Worst still, try connect to the internet and it is simply impossible - one cannot update the database. It is not being sold anywhere as a new product so just do not buy. Do not buy, again. Great sound but just stick to a normal Hifi for 1/2 the price.
