Hi there,

I'm a bit of a numb skull when it comes to these things, so apologies if some of the questions are a bit obvious. Also if this has been answered before then please send me there (although I have done a search and not found anything, or at least not something I could understand).

The setup I have is Sony KDL40W4500, Onkyo 606, Kef 1005.2, PS3 and Sky HD. Also an xbox that will be upgraded to the HDMI version at some point.

The Onkyo was setup with the auto setup, and I've not changed anything since. The PS3 is using HDMI through the Game channel on the amp (not sure if the channel makes a difference?) and the Sky HD is connected via digital coax and set to Dolby Digital out.

The problem I have is that there seems to be a delay before the sub woofer kicks in. Say a piece of music, or sound effect starts and it takes a few seconds for the sub woofer to notice. Similarly it drops out for no apparent reason.

I've noticed it mainly when watching Sky, so I'm wondering if it only does it when in All Channel Stereo mode.

Also when watching either a BD or DVD through the PS3 I get PCM PLII displayed on the amp, when I was expecting to see multichannel (although there is a Dolby PLII logo displayed on the top right of the amps display). This is with either bitstream or Linear PCM selected on the PS3.

Should I be seeing this? I thought PLII was taking a stereo sound source and translating to 5.1, or have I got that completely wrong?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

Steve.

Hi Steve
It sounds like you need to change the audio setting on the PS3 to send a multichannel signal. I think it's probably set on stereo at the moment. I don't have a PS3 so don't know the exact settings.
With the sub problem, try turning the level down on the sub and then running setup again. It sounds like the signal from the amp is too low for the auto detect on the sub.

Thanks for the response Paul.

The PS3 is set to Automatic for the HDMI output, so I'm assuming that it chooses from the source disc.

I'll try as you suggest with the sub and see what happens.

I think I might have confused myself with just what Pro Logic II is, am I right in thinking that it turns a stereo signal into a kind of pseudo surround sound?

Also I noticed that turning the TV off causes the amp to rescan for an audio signal, so I'm wondering if that's something to do with it. Perhaps the TV is telling the amp that it's a stereo input, although not to sure how?
