Interested to hear what your one song nomination that has it all. That is great lyrics, vocals, instruments and overall sound and feel.

I'll start with my nomination.

The Beatles - The End.

I Feel Love 12" EP - Donna Summer

As far as I'm concerned a game-changer in music. There's plenty of others but this one stands out for me.
Remember first hearing it, out in the sun, with full-sized (Eagle) headphones plugged into one of these http://vintage-radios-london.co.uk/...700-3-Band-LW-MW-FM-Portable-Transistor-Radio
only mono from MW Radio 1, but sounded great - though it was a revelation in FM stereo on my Fidelity music centre (when Radios 1 & 2 joined up for the Top 40 Show on Sunday nights).
40 years later, playback equipment is better, the same can't be said for the music.
Can you imagine another game-changer like Donna's these days?

I remember those Grundig radios... snazzy beasts :) Think I first heard it at a disco somewhere. There's been plenty of music over the years but nothing that had such an effect on me personally as this track did.

Not particularly a Beatles fan but there is a load of material there that could make a case.
However, despite not being a huge Stones fan, I go with Gimme Shelter. Complex guitar, excellent percussion and the combo of Jagger and the female vocalist wail inferring power and menace.

I would always have massive trouble if someone asked me what my top 10 songs were, but if I could only name one it would probably be Nostalgia by David Sylvian.

I was into Japan when I was but a mere sprog, but I haven't listened to David Sylvian, or that track, since the late 80s. but I'll have a listen again tomorrow, when I can raise the volume a little.

difficult one, too many to choose from.

Maybe 'Losing my Religion' by REM is a good example. Michael Stipe on his peak performance, fine drums, guitar, and the mandolin adding an extra ring to the track.
