On ear headphones vs In ear earphones

If you were to spend the same amount of money on a pair of earphones such as this:

Or a pair of headphones such as this:

and lets not take the quality of the specified models mentioned into account.

What are the differences between the two types of headphones. Are ones better then the other?

Welcome. It all depends what you want in my opinion:

Privacy (although on ear may afford a tad) from the in ears;

Portability for commuting; or

Home listening.
