Older Blu-ray or new Amp?

I have an ageing (but excellent) Yamaha DSP AX757SE surround amp and I want to jump into the Blu-ray world. However, there seems to be less and less players around now with multi channel output at the price point I'm after (no more than £400). I was hoping the new Sony BDP-S570 would have it, but alas no. Would you know if the upcoming BDP-S770 has this feature? I realise that I can still output sound through the co-axial and optical jacks, but if I'm having the improved vision, I'd like the improved sound too.

So, my dilemma is this: Do I upgrade my amp to one that has HDMI inputs, or do I go for an earlier model player, like the BDP-S760?

Thanks

Steve

If you want to retain your amp, you have the Panasonic DMP-BD80/85, Sony BDP-S760, LG BD-390 or Pioneer BDP-51FD/LX-71 to choose from for under £400 that has multi-channel analogue outputs to choose from.

have a look out for the pioneers, i picked up the pioneer lx70a for under £280 last year and its a great machine, you should also be able to pick up the later lx71 model for under your budget.

Hi Steve

I would advise you to hold on to your DSP-AX757SE amp as is is still very good. Yamaha's BD-S1900 blu ray player is also worth considering as i believe it is an excellent player and will be an ideal match with your DSP-AX757SE.

The BD-S1900 is good enough at its RRP of £550 however BD-S1900's are now are generally available for £350-£400 making it even better VFM and within your budget.

Thanks

I'd also recommend you have a look at the pioneers. The LX71 is also a very good CDP.

Hang on to the Yamaha amp Steve, there are plenty of players around with on board decoding. This thead has suggested some very fine options with 5.1 analogue outs. I use a Panasonic BD80 connected to a Yamaha amp and the results are very good indeed.

JohnDuncan:And the Cambridge 650BD...

But I'm fairly sure the 770 has a full set of analogue outs, doesn't it? And is likely to edge the cambridge in the picture stakes, if not in it's universality.

JD,

so what are we expecting and when are we expecting the Sony 770, price point also?
