Since it's an old amp, I'm guessing you're getting it very cheap, bob? £350 worth of speakers won't really do that amp justice, I'd say you need to be spending at least £1,000. That's not to say you shouldn't buy it (depends how cheap you're getting the 875 for), but it might be better to split the money more in favour of the speaker package. How much do you have in total for both amp and speakers?

Crikey, if you're getting the 875 for £200 then go for it! Cheapest that I can see it going for used is about £450!

I can't really recommend used speaker packages as it all depends how much of a bargain you can find. New though, the Boston Acoustics package is a worth a look obviously, although not as small, this Q Acoustics package (review here) is well worth £250 IMHO, and this Roth OLi package (review here) is also worth looking into, though the centre speaker might be an issue to house. Back to true style speakers, and the old reliable KEF 1005.2 package (review here) is always there too and matched with that Onkyo should overcome any restraint!

It's a great amp mate, and really does deserve the best speakers you can afford, after all, it's the speakers which will translate the capabilities of your amp to your ears!

I bought my amp and B&W theatre second hand, and am so happy with them!

Enjoy!

DO NOT GET LIFESTYLE SPEAKERS FOR THIS AMP. It would be like putting Renault Clio wheels on a Nissan 350z.

Get a nice, full size package. Personally, I am a Tannoy man, and I run them off the very similar Onkyo 805. Sound lovely.

Clueless Bob,

This is indeed an excellent amp, but as pointed out, you will only derive the best from this amp if partnered with speakers that are close to the £1k mark.

If this is not possible, I would suggest you look at the Onkyo TX-SR606/607 instead which can be partnered with cheaper speakers, like the Q Acoustics 1010i suggested by the Prof. This would be a very good combination.

I don't think you can get a TX-SR875 for £200!!

I agree Ronald,

Although, if your budget only alows for cheaper speakers at present, don't be put off the 875, as in the near future you may be able to afford more suitable speakers, while already having a superb amp!
