Hi all, just got back from the bristol show, and am suffering from a serious case of upgradeitis. Listened to a pair of PMC DB1s, and a pair of Adam HM2s, both around £650. Both blew me away with their punch, drive and (especially in the case of the adam's) detail. Problem is, I'm not sure whether my amp is up to the task (aging but lovely Rotel 820) of driving them. I'm confident my sources are ok (see sig) but would I be better spending 400 quid on a pair of MA BR5 / RS1s and a new £250 amp, or would I be better going for the speakers above that blew me away? Any thoughts welcome...

I heard them too! Awsome don't you think?!? I liked the floorstanders next to them aswell - I got a price quoted for £1k so should have bought them! Hey, go for the speakers because it will mean you won't have to upgrade as soon...and when the time comes to change the Rotel you'll have an awsome set-up! Did you hear the big EB1 PMCs next door??? Absolutly amazing! The bass was outstanding! Heard some Van Halen on them...stayed for quite a while after to recollect my mind...

Completely. Only thing is, I've been on their website, and they don't list a uk distributor!!! But listening to an acoustic piece, the singer was so focussed in front of me, I did actually ask if they had plugged in one of the other speakers that was central between the HM2s... it was that bang-on rock-solid an image. Incredible for £650 really...

And I know exactly what you mean about the PMCs - but out of my meagre range, so I tend to tear myself away before I start thinking cards/loans!!!!

Ah, dealer wise I was talking to their rep and he said I could collect them (I live in Bicester near Oxford) from Sevenoaks or Overture (he said the Oxford and Banbury branches respectivly, but I guess you could get them at any one). I think your Rotel would suit them quite well too and as for quality, I'd be happy to put them on my '79 JVC so the Rotel should be fine! ; )

I can't remember what hi-fi was powering them - it began with B; something like Bryant.

And you should be smug Mr. Duncan!!!

If you loved the sound so much, then you have to get them, otherwise you won't ever be happy with what you buy. Then save up for a new amp.

I've enquired on the Adam website to find a uk dealer...I've got to get a listen using my own kit, as while it sounded awesome (and I use the word in it's correct sense, rather than a "dude" kind of way) at the show, they were using some rather expensive Chord electronics kit...

Clare - have you managed to listen to any of the Adam speakers? I'd love to hear your views...

Other than at the Show, no - but by now i'm sure the team has been pestering them for test samples, so watch this space!
