Hi all

hope someone can point me in the right direction.

i have just win Sony. Bdp s370 I have the Onkyo TX8050 I believe I can only get the benefit of SACD playback if I use the analogue outs on the Sony or can I use the optical or coaxial outputs? If I can't do this I guess I will have to get an entry level Av receiver? Am I correct in this assumption please.

thanks for any advice offered

Yes, you would need to use the analogue outs because only the BDP can decode the SACD stream. Any DAC or receiver you connect digitally will only process PCM data, not the DSD stream from SACD.

Any receiver you buy would need to be able to decode DSD audio- I really have no idea whether any do!

You can always connect up both sets of outputs, just a case of changing inputs on the receiver- digital when watching a film, flick to 'aux' when you want to hear an SACD.

Many thanks for your kind reply I would not have thought to use both digital & analogue great suggestion!

have a great bank holiday

cheers

I had been thinking for a while about adding a Marantz 7004 streamer and Yamaha RX-V673 AV amp to my system. But I have now started to realise that there are some interesting SACDs out there, at not expensive prices. So I am starting to think in terms of using a Marantz UD7007 as a streamer/SACD player, plus the Yamaha RX-V673. Does anyone have any experience using these items together in a system to play SACDs? Any feedback would be most appreciated. 🙂

Indeed, as a budget player the Sony BDP-370 does not output native a DSD stream, whereas players like the Marantz UD7007 would - but through its HDMI output. If you thus want the full-fat SACD experience there are AV receivers which have built-in DSD decoders to accept the stream natively - I just don't know if your Yamaha does though.

EDIT: Read up on the Yamaha specs - it does not seem to contain a DSD decoder but SACDs should sound great on the UD7007 regardless. Good luck.

Quite a few do - my Onkyo 875 does for example.

Thanks Manicm,

Clearly I need to perform more research, to make sure that any SACD player, and the AV amp are compatable in DSD terms.

Maybe an Onkyo TX - NR818 would be a better option.
