I think it's about time I got away from second-rate listening and am hoping for some advice on starting a system. Having read What HiFi reviews etc I think I have narrowed my amp/CD combos to a NAD C545BEE and C326BEE or Cambridge 650C and 650A, though I am open to other suggestions. My music tastes are mainly mainstream 80's rock and pop with a bit of opera now and again to satisfy my other half.
For speakers I am considering the Wharfedale Diamond 10.1, M-S Mezzo-2 or the B&W 685 but I have no idea on suitable matching of speakers to the two amp/player combinations. I recently heard a pair of Dali Lektor-2s back to back with a pair of Mezzo 2s. Unfortunately it was a bit of an impromtu audition and I'm not sure what each was paired with. Being new to this I don't understand the characteristics jargon but the Dalis seemed a bit "thin" (not sure how else to describe it) whereas the Mezzos were "richer" which on a brief listen I preferred. What HiFi rate the EB Acoustic EB-1s highly but as I don't live in the UK I'm not inclined to take a risk on them.
