I have an 840 amp/cd connected with CA's XLR - I didn't try any other XLR's but there was an improvement, particularly in the bass, over my RCA cable

thanks for that alexisno 2. the cambrige audio xlr is about half the price of the chord chorus xlr .i do like my chameleon silver plus rca cable and that makes me lean towards trying the chorus xlr.then again would they be abit overkill for the 840 setup i have.how do the cambridge audio xlr cables compair as i cannot find any reviews.i do seem to remember reading that the 840a sounded better using all copper interconnections.if that is so does anyone have any recommendations for me to try out.thanks all and enjoy the long weekend...

I have that same amp (CA 840A v1) and use XLR cables to connect to my DacMagic. I've tried a couple of cables which I got cheaply, some from ebay. I started off with the Cairn XO, which I still have. RRP around ?120, bought for half that on the Bay. Next I got a Chord Cobra 2 for pretty much nothing. Didn't last long on my system as it wasn't a patch on the Cairn (expectedly). I since have bought another one from the Bay: Kimber Timbre (I think). This one has been used "non-stop" for the past month or so. I haven't done much A/B comparison with the Cairn, but the Kimber does appear to provide more detail in the mids, and also less bass than the Cairn. I love ebay for the convenience and affordality it gives me as I can go and buy something, try it on and if I don't like it, it gets relisted and normally sells quite easily (and sometimes at a profit too).
