My aged but oh so trusted SP9 is in need of a little TLC.

I thought it was about time I changed the valves.

Can anyone give me some advice on what to go for and a rough idea of the price?

My dad also has some Audio Research gear (LS2 & PH1), so we thought we might get a job lot. Are there specific valves recommended for the various models, or is it one size fits all?

Thanks.

Looks like you need the 6922 type tube for the SP9

The LS2 uses a single 6922

And the PH1 appears to be a solid state phono amp

So yes it appears you need just 3x 6922 tubes. You can pick up some lightly used Mullard 6922 for around £10/ea.

I belive that the 6922 is the same pin out and interchangable with the ECC88, E88CC and 6DJ8 type tubes as well.

Paul, I'd think it worth a call to Absolute Sounds to see if they recommend anything different to the above or can supply at a good price. Maybe some other updating might be needed, or conversely none at all!

I would say great minds think alike, but not sure my knowledge touches yours!

I'd already done exactly what you had suggested and am waiting for them to reply.

Thanks again.
