Hi,

Welcome to the forums. What you 'need' is dependant on your personal preference and any limitations you have.

A full separate system with full range speakers will take up a lot of shelf space - do you have enough space for 5 full size speakers and possibly a subwoofer and stands? Look here to see an example of this type of speaker system:

http://www.whathifi.com/review/monitor-audio-bronze-br2-package

Can you run wires around the room to accommodate the system or would a sound bar with 'pseudo-surround' suit your watching environment? Example of a soundbar:

An all in one system can be very easy to set up but may not have enough inputs for any other kit you may have (or intend to purchase). Look here for an example:

http://www.whathifi.com/review/lg-hx976tzw

A style system will give you 5 speakers and a subwoofer but take up less space than a full size system. Have a look at this style system:

http://www.whathifi.com/review/q-acoustics-q7000

Will you only use the system to watch TV/films or will music be a priority too?

Do you want/have a DVD or BD source or are you looking to incorporate this also?

Give a few more details and a shortlist can be made. All the above are examples only and not a recommendation.

Cheers,

Cofnchtr.

P.S. Don't worry about the jargon, we speak in the simplest terms necessary to assist the OP.

Thanks cofnchtr

I have a samsung BD-5500 blue ray player this came with the tv package.I will use all the systems that the tv has to offer.I do not have sky/vigin and will not be using any games consoles. I have a large room with plenty of space. I don't really like the idea of a soundbar but I could have my mind charged. I would like to watch TV and listen to music.

Thanks

Thanks for that. I have been looking at the What HiFi awards for 2011. I like the idea of the Yamaha YSP-2200 soundbar would this suit my TV.

Thanks

Hi,

If I were you and space is no constraint I would, as suggested above, look at a full separates system.

Any of the examples above would suit your TV, the important bit is making sure the system is well balanced and suits your personal sonic taste.

Get auditions of anything you think you may like - take with you your favourite films and CD's so you can listen to excerpts you are familiar with. Arrange an appointment with a reputable dealer who will assist you in your choice - you will more than likely have at least an hours appointment where the assistant will give you his/her undivided attention in a tailormade listening room.

Try the Onkyo TX-NR609 with the Q Acoustics 2000i 5.1 pack which will come in under your £1000 budget allowing for cables.

Cheers,

Cofnchtr.

You could also look at some of our recommended Best Buy home cinema systems which have been updated to reflect the new 2011 Award winners (obviously you won't need to bother with the TVs and Blu-ray players):

Thanks to you both I will take your advise and go to a dealer and listen to a few different systems. This may take some time I will return in the future and let you know.

Thanks again
