i went and bought a pana TH42 85b plasma tv and very happy with it. got my pioneer AV out of its box a 1016V-s to set up the surround sound. linked up the speakers and linked up my playstation 3 and tosh hd player via hdmi links. ran a speaker set up test everything was fine. i can't get the tv to show anything from either the paystaion 3 or the tosh hd player. i checked all the cables from the two in and 1 out checked the back of the tv for the one in from the AV and still nothing. what am i doing wrong or am i assuming evrything should be right but missed something major.

thanks for any help

In a reader rescue this month, the team had a similar problem. The cause? A brand new cable from Chord was defective. This sort of thing just happens sometimes. Try to rule out faulty cables if you can.

hi Andy, yes i set the whole system up from scratch again, because when i link the tosh and ps3 direct to the tv it is fine. but when linked through the AV i get nothing at all.

i changed the cables yesterday as i thought that might have been the problem i have a total of 6 cables and paid another fortune for the three new ones. i do believe like most that using good cables is worth it. but six cant all be wrong.

I would agree. Seems your problem lies elsewhere or you've been really unlucky.

When you link the PS3 and Toshiba directly to the TV how are connecting them? HDMI?

Hi PJPro,

yep i only use hdmi as my link and they are both superb when direct through to the TV

Sounds like a setup issue with the AV amp then....or something is faulty. I'm not familiar with it, so woun't be able to provide much help. Sorry.

there is nothing faulty with your amp - the tosh hd and ps3 output in hdmi1.3a the AV is an older model and can't do anything with it - it can only handle hdmi 1.2 - i have same prob with a son 1200es and an Arcam solo Movie - its a joke - but they have written in the instructions that hdmi is new technology and still an evolvoing format!!!!! i don't think there is anyway to stop the machines output but whether you can get some old hdmi leads that are not 1.3a certified whether it will work! I am waiting for Arcam to come back to me to confirm whether it is a 1.3a case and whether its something they can fix with a firmware update although don't hold out much hope.

just been reading on the official hdmi website there are two different types of cable in terms of speed - a standard and high speed cable - standard can only handle upto 1080i the high speed can handle anything so i am wondering if i get a standard speed cable will that block anything above 1080i this will also block the new audio format but my old av amps can't take sound over hdmi anyway - anyone any ideas?

it really annoys me to the point that i feel like throwing everything in the bin. when i bought the AV i was told it would handle anything, at nearly £400.00 i thought it would be ok, so that was a lie, when i looked in the Mag it rated it as 4 stars and was an alturnative to what i wanted but i thought would be ok. granted i got a ps3 and a tosh hd to satisfy the then need to cover all the options. there must be soemthing that says if you produce a bit of kit that has HDMI then it should work on new tv's and not so old ps3 and hd players. i have 6 cables costing a small packet and none work. what a waste of money!!!!!

Now this is getting more interesting - I have just had my response from Arcam who say that HDMI should be backwards compatible and that the Solo should just bi pass any signal attached to it - strange thing is I had a Sony 1200es before that would not send a picture from a Tosh hd ep 35 either - they have asked to try different cables which I have so are now at a loss as to why it doesn't work - I am waiting for them to come back to me.

Arcam come back really quick - said think it is prob a problem with the unit as they have done a lot of testing with the new hd formats and no probs so have asked me to return it - might be worth taking your pioneer back!!!

i would gladly pay for someone to come and look at mine to see if they could sort it. i might just try that and see what pinoneer have to say should be interesting thanks Lads

Have you tried connecting the PS3 to the amp with optical and HDMI to your tv, works fine for me (just change BD/DVD settings on the PS3)

The problem is not down to 1.2 vs 1.3 spec on HDMI - if you look at the differences between the two, the major differences (among other things) are the ability to support lip synch delays, deep colour and bitstreaming HD audio - clearly none of these would affect the video coming through.

So it may be a settings issue or a faulty amp, but it should definitely work.
