Hi,

I really need your help with buying a new tv for my conservatory. I want to watch the world cup and play ps3 games on it mainly. i was wanting a 37 0r 40 inch tv.

I started off ordering the samsung 40b550 but cancelled it as i wasnt sure how it would handle the football with it only being 50hz. Then i was looking at the sony 40ex503 but that is £650. I think i should stick to my guns and only spend under £500.

Someone please put me out of my misery, i'm sick of looking and reading reviews.

thanks for the prompt reply. The £650 for the sony was from john lewis with £100 already off for the part ex of an old tv. If you know of anywhere else to get it from to get it near the £500 mark i will gladly go there.

I'm still struggling to pick a tv. I just want it to be a very clear picture for the football ( to the same standard as my 40W4500 in my living room as poss). I'd imagine playing ps3 games will look good on anything and i wont be watching films on it. So i need something more than capable of dealing with sd motion.

There are loads of tvs for £500 and under, surely some of them must be good for sports.

The cheapest i saw the 40ex503 was £650 after trade in, if i was to get that i'd probably put it in my living room and put the 40w4500 in the conservatory. But like i've said there's got be some cracking tvs under £500 surely.

Come on girls and boys and WHSV workers, i need some inspiration.

All i've been recommended is the Sony £150 over budget, somebody through some tvs into the ring.

I want it up and running by the end of the month at the latest and the money's burning a hole in my pocket!!

There are some superb deals around on the W5810 sets. Last remaining stocks are entering the market now. We are selling the 40" for £549 - I'm sure there will be other Sony Centres offering a very similar deal.

Thanks a lot Matthew, i'll look into it mate. I usually buy via the sony centre's for the 5 year warranty.

Gateshead/Metrocentre Sony Centre said they've just got the 5810 but cant do it for £549 they can do it for £600. But he's going to try and do the EX503 for £650. To be honest i'd rather have the older one and the £100 i'll save will pay for it to be put on the wall in the conservatory.

Case closed, I've ordered the 40EX503 for £650 from the Sony centre.

I didnt want to but as their was not many replies to the thread i thought i'd better stick to what i know. I tried my W4500 in the conservatory and i was over the moon, the picture was decent even though i only have a co axial cable running from the sky box into it.

I still blame Andy the editor though for making me spend an extra £150 on the TV.His ears will be warm when i'm working the extra shifts to pay for it lol!

In a bizarre twist of fate the Samsung 40B550 i cancelled on monday (£450) arrived yesterday.

I tried it out and its alright considering its running straight off a co axial cable from the sky box in the living room into the conservatory. The picture is obviously nowhere near as good as sky on my W4500 in the living room but i watched the fulham game on 5 last night (terrible broadcasters) and it'll do me.

So all in it was £200 cheaper than the EX503 which would be a better tele but as things stand at the moment i'd rather have the £200 in my pocket.

hello rolo i am on the verge of buying the samsung.

how are you getting on with it?

also where did you buy it from for £450?

Good afternoon Gypseyboy, i ordered the LE40B550 from Richersounds Manchester ( can i say that? ) i payed £580.00 for mine with a 5 year guarantee. I have altered the picture settings from examples of here and another forum and i have been mightely impressed with the picture. I have sky+ HD running through it ( full package ) The Pacific is amazing in HD if your into stuff like that. As well as the sports channels. I fitted a cambridge audio HDMI lead to connect them together with an already burned in Russ Andrews mains lead.

Mine is the WXQU version with an SQ04 screen/panel? but all in all a great set for me. A beginner on a budget!

Hope this helps. Thanks kev

cheers kev. think my mind is made up with all the reviews and what hi fi giving it the best buy.

plus the price is amazing really.

one qusetion whats the football like with only 50hz?

i have got virgin hd so not as many chanels as sky.

hoping to get blue ray in the future.

Bearing in mind i have not got the trained eye of others on here, the sports channels in HD are pretty amazing!

I watched a boring mid week match last week for the picture quality alone and that was with manufacture's settings!

now it is alot lot better. Just for reference there are 2 model variances of the set, WXXU ( i think ) and WXQU mine is the latter.

people rave on about the former and that is the one tested by the different media. But i am impressed by the set i got.

The two variances are down too a chip in the set i believe, i was a bit disheartend at first because i thought i had wasted my money.

But once you start to use it in HD i forgot about it.

Hope that helps. Cheers kev

bloody hell how do you know if you get WXXU or WXQU?

i thought if its the same model number then thats what you get.

Thats just the thing you dont, from all accounts the WXXU was the earlier model and the WXQU the latter but either way it is a great set ( in my eye's anyway ) with this set different retailers had different codes like LE40B551, LE40B553 but it is the same set the last digit was specific for different retailers so i believe. If you shop around you should be able to obtain a WXXU. I took the chance and ended up with the later model. But mustn't grumble!

hello kev.

update for you. i have contacted samsung and the wxxu is for the uk market and the wxqu is for the german market.

he reeled off other codes for france ,poland spain ect ect.

they state the only difference is sound and the picture is the same. not sure how you ended up with a wxqu??

you should only obtain a wxxu in this country.

thats from the horses mouth.

cheers

Hi guys,

Sorry about the delay as i thought this thread was dead. I've just looked and mine is the WXQU as well.

I got it off the net at PRC Direct for £449 and after i bought it they put the price by about £30. Also i didnt take out the warranty but got a phone call later the same day off PRC asking if i wanted 5 years for £79. I took it but have phoned them up to cancel it as its just for in my conservatory and wont be getting used all the time. To be honest i've never had any problems with tvs, i usually get sony but this is my second samsung. The only problem i have had was when my son broke the panel on my 40"W4500 in the living room due to repeatedly hitting it, lol.

Spoke to samsung myself for piece of mind they state that it is a purely cosmetic difference and the internals are exactley the same all over europe! So all in all yes a great L.C.D get it bought for the price!

hello kev contacted samsung again and he said the same.

that was confirmed by the head guy.

i am picking one up tomorow for a bargain price.
