Hi All

Im looking to change my old pioneer (movies) arcam (music) kef Q system as its 10 years old and i think its time i treated myself in serious style, thus i need assistance as i reside in Dubai and we have very few sound test venues, no expensive kit is on test here.

I was looking at the following;

Speakers - Kef XQ 40s 50c, etc or B&W 803/805

my only concern with the B&W is I can only listen to them with rotel and its too harsh for my taste, not sure if its the speakers or the rotel kit. The Kefs i love, they just sing to me.

Amps - Arcam FJM 600 or do i do pre and power amp with Bryston or mac 207.

My thoughts are that i can use my current amp for cinema whilst using the mac 207 for music until i can get the matching pre/processor which will be a 3-4 month wait, however im a bit concerned about the video with the mac as it has HD limitations ive been told.

I therefore need some serious advise, maybe there is a better combo of power and pre which will keep me going another 10 years or that i can upgrade as I go along.

Im using the playstation as blue ray whilst i await the new arcam or similar, to be launched, am also matching with the Kuro -pioneer 60" plasma.

Assistance please.......

The AVR600 and the KEF XQ range go very well together. Many demonstrations I've done recently, AV and music, people have gone for the KEF's over other brands as they just seem to be more detailed, allowing you to hear more of what's going on and to hear some of the 'layers' in music that tend to sound quite flat on many speakers.

Thanks David, I have been told this a few times and knowing both brands as I do i'm sure i will be happy, however it is just the upgrade route that I was considering for a future dedicated home cinema room. If I go this route would there be an upgrade route later if I wanted a dedicated room or would i have to start again. The size of the dedicated room would be 6x6m or 5x7m.

Ive always had a single unit like the Arcam and never gone for a pre/power option, thats why this time I wanted sound advice on the two options. I would have additional cash available in a few months to upgrade, and again at the end of the year hence my current thoughts.

I was pairing arcam and kef and thought of mac 207/bryston 9sst/ and b&w/kef/proac.

Really appreciate the assistance as I'm confused with the best way to optimise my new system.

Regards Paul
