Hi folks

at present i am using an old yamaha sub which is not doing my system any justice at all.

I have a budget of 300 - 400 for a new one and was looking at the B+W ASW608 which may or may not be powerfull enough (3*review) for me

anyone got any other suggestions in this price range?

cheers

You can get the B&W ASW610 for £400 if you shop around and this would fit in very nicely with your system I reckon. I have it with my 685 fronts, HTM62 centre and M1 rears and it really is an excellent little sub for the money.

Profs excellent suggestion considering you have a B&W system , As an alternative to consider

Canada 16 has just bought a MA R370HD in walnut for 250.00 from David at Frank Harvey ,and he seems to be happy with it

Hi,

Space was a premium for me, so I bought a Velodyne Impact Mini for £300. It kicks! Slightly bigger are the Impact 10 and Impact 12. Velodyne is a great brand for subs (although it is hard to refute The Prof's excellent suggestion)!

I am very happy with the 370HD, Its so so solid, and the finish is amazing, very high quality.

Hooking it up tonight, the sub looks amazing, very solid and its the same ones they use in the platnium range, so if they have any left at 250.00 its a steal.

The Monitor Audio 370HD is a very very good subwoofer for the money, specially for £250 and having owned a Monitor Audio subwoofer, i can proudly say they are very good and the quality of the finish is superb but if you can spend a little more, i'd go for the B&W ASW610, it's a awesome subwoofer, goes very low and deep and very very surprising how powerful it is for the size, i have not regret buying one and it will take some beating as it's the What Hi-Fi best subwoofer for the price range 2 years in a row.

thanks guys

i forgot to mention that i am not in the UK (but in Ireland) - just checked on the sevenoaks irish site and the MA370HD is ?599!!!! - thats over twice the price allowing for conversion - the ASW610 is ?535 which is a bit closer to the UK price though.

I did mention the BK Gemini 2's earlier in this post, (part of your link) proffski!!!

They seem to be able to produce good subs, judging by the reviews and comments I have found........

But the B&W 610 might be best ,cos he already uses B&W speakers.......

Hello Pete,

I concur with Professorhat as I have a B&W 685 theatre but I upgraded the subwoofer to the ASW610 and I play blurays, DVDs and music with my Onkyo 905 receiver. My wife even enjoys the system and loves the black speakers as it suits the decor. You will not regret buying the subwoofer but don't forget to get a centre speaker for the dialogue.

Best wishes

Chris
