I know they do, but they are smooth sounding and that is what Im after. Its just the gf does not like the black frontage of some of the speakers, so have to keep her happy when buying more kit.

Am I looking in the right direction with the proac's as I would like a few more to add to the listening list?

will have a look now mr duncan, see what people were saying then. Cheers, Phil

I heard the new Acoustic Energy Reference 1's at the Bristol Show. Very impressive. Well worth a listen, due for release Sept/Oct I believe (if you can wait)

I think the Sonus faber's look very good, i heard them on a show with a tube amp and a turntable and the little boxes did fill the big room nice, very great sounding to.

I read very good things about the old but still in production Totem Acoustics Model One, i love to hear this one to compare it to my current Hyperion HWS-586 speakers. The Hyperion bookshelfs are much cheaper then the Totem model one but i liked them very much when i compared them to stuff like Dynaudio, Spendor,... I really want to find out if the Totem would be much better. There aren't many dealers in the UK for Hyperion but if you want to spend 2000£ i would consider these Totem's and also the Sonus Faber.

The big Sonus fabers sound rather nice...

...but they may be pushing the budget a bit!

Judging from the small standmounter i heard of Sonus Faber they must sound really good when well designed.

But pushing your budget just a bit??? They cost a fortune... Well, high end is no different from jewelry, exclusive watches, clothes, etc...

I went to a show a few months ago where i heard many different setups and speakers in all price category's and the ones i was most impressed with was the big Adam Audio floorstanders, Sonus Faber of coursse and Magico... But the Magico's are to expensive. On that show i also heard the well regarded Wilson Audio flagship speakers but was very dissapointed in them, they sounded hard, could be the amp maybe, it's hard to judge and make a true final comment on a show. But when a speakers sounds allready good on a show, chances are it sounds good at home to taking placemnet and acoustics in consideration.

WISH i COULD HAVE THEM, THEY LOOK DAMN FINE TO ME. MAYBE A FEW HUNDRED QUID OVER MY LIMIT THO!

Proac response d2, atc scm19 (but her indoors does not like the look of them!), B&W 805's, and wilson benesch sq1 (,aybe a bit to harsh for the cyrus though).

Will see where I can demo them all not and then go spending in a few weeks.

Andrew, i read your stint in Italy with them, having presumed that you actually got to listen to them, are they really worth the asking price, also how much do you think you would need to spend on source, amp etc to get the best from them.

Looked at the proac response d2 today and they are a bit large, what do people think of the d1 versions?

Yes I did listen to them, and they do sound sensational. 50 times more sensational than £2k speakers? Probably not, but then that's diminishing returns for you, and the kind of people willing to spend that sort of money to get the best will be less concerned by the actual price, and more with the performance - oh, and willing to spend very serious dosh to buy the very best source and amplification components to match them.
