New record player

Hi

I want to get a record player and start collecting all of my favourite classic albums to play on it. I am not interested in a player that has capabilities to connect with a computer etc, just a good quality traditional style player. Where do I start? Thanks!

Perhaps you could look at what vinyl costs these days and then think about how much you want to spend on the player.
Do you mean a turntable you connect to a stereo amplifier or an all-in-one record player?
If the first there are many threads on this subforum already on this subject.

Do you already have a stereo system? Does the amp have a phono stage?
What's the budget?
There are a couple of brands that produce excellent record players at reasonable prices. And of course very expensive ones too. You can't go wrong with:

If you also want to play 45's you probably want to look at a player that switches speeds electronically. If you want to buy a system from scratch you may want to look at an integrated system of record player, amp and speakers.

As noted above a couple of good starter turntables.
Still would be a good idea to know budget and what amplifier you have, if you already own one.

Depends on your budget and the amp you are plugging it into (and the speakers you're using) but Rega RP1 and RP3 are great versatile decks, are upgradable and will remain relevant if you end up upgrading amp/speakers over time.

personally, I don't think you can go far wrong with RP1 or 3, Rega Brio amp and either Q Acoustic or Dali bookshelf or floorstanders if you have room.

I'd also support the nods towards Project as well but I think at the budget end, Rega does it better.

As others have mentioned, budget will be a key factor.
If you are starting your system from from scratch, you might reason want to consider around £1k for turntable, integrated amp and speakers. That's a lot of money, so my advice would be to save up until you can get close to this. What hifi have provided some great articles regarding budget system building, so check those out.
