grdunn123:Is £799 inclusive of delivery a good price for the SC-LX72? If so then I think I'll go for one of these

I paid nearly £100.00 more not long ago, and I thought that was a good price. The LX72 is a very good amp, I too run this with some Monitor Audio speakers (Apex) and do not find this combo bright in the least.

Glad I bought it, made me want to revisit some old DVD's and CD's.

Thanks Michael, it works well with the Apex then??

To my ears the combination is excellent and as Canada16 said about his MA / LX72 combination you can hear the strings, everything is so clear from the centre speaker dialogue to multi channel instruments.

My wife liked the Apex from the moment we walked in to the very last film we demoed, tried the Apex with an Onkyo 608 and then the Arcam 500, we both loved the Arcam but did not want to spend £2500 on an amp just yet.

We then listened to the LX72 but not with the Apex and liked the sound, so bought one.

Ok, for a couple of reasons I have veered away from the Pioneer SCLX72.....firstly down to the lack of upscaling ability.....thought this would be a 'given' on an amp of this stature. The other reason being that the site I had found would appear to be very dodgy and althought it does appear on first view that credit/debit cards are welcome, they actively encourage bank transfer only!!

BTW AskDirect have the sclx72 at just under £800. They allow pick up in store and get good reviews on line. Their store's in Tottenham Court Road

I've tried several times, even been in touch with my credit card company who, after I had had several failed attempts telling me that my card had been declined, told me that there had been no attempts at any transactions on the card since September! On phonong the site I was told to use bank transfer! Not happy with that.

So, after earning that the SCLX72 doesn't upscale, the next logical question is.......does the SCLX82 upscale?? My only concern is that I end up like Canada and hav a poor TV upscaler which leaves me lookig to spend again on a decent TV........which I can't afford to do. I'm torn between the Onkyo TX-NR3007 which can be had for around 1K or the Pioneer SCLX82 for just over 1K...

All we've ever heard is people complaining that amplifiers have excess features that they're not going to use.....

Ok, correction here regarding upscaling. The Pioneer reps just been in and I have some comparison sheets between the previous and current receivers, and what the differences are.

The SCLX72/SCLX82 will upscale analogue sources to 1080p, but it won't upscale digital (HDMI) sources. There is nothing in the menu regarding this as it is automatic. The SCLX73/SCLX83 upscales analogue and digital sources.

Thanks David, having a hard time deciding which path to take with this one. Like the Onkyo sound and would think that the TX-NR3007 will give me more of the quality that I get with the 806 with better upscaling etc.....but have heard and read so many good things about the Pioneer 72/82......no chance of demos so I guess I'm gonna have to toss a coin....
