So why ask about the weight of the 46/47in models?

There is no debate, and anyway I fail to see how you can draw any conclusions from a set of figures for two TVs you're not thinking of buying regarding the size you are thinking of buying. Especially when clearly the stands for the two are of different weights, and thus skew the figures.

Someone in this forum was comparing the two.

Well when I compare the two, weight is one thing I compare. The Stand heavier more than the other does not matter it's the combined weight that's important because that's the weight going on your stand.

I see - but most TV racks can handle 50kg or so with ease on their top shelf, so I'd respectfully suggest that the weight without stand is more important, as people will want to know this when wall-mounting.

I have a customised optimum stand that was customised for my centre speaker and it's very heavy on the table stand.

So when I upscale to the 40 inches for a tv weight is a consideration for me. My 32 inch weighs in at 21.kg with table stand.

So I figure i am definetely going to be safe with that amount for a 40 inch.

Just had a look at the philips website the philips 40 LED 9704 weighs in at 22.6kg with table stand.

So this is perfect for me. So I am really looking forward to this review.

Mind you I can't see me buying a new TV for at least 5 years. I just like to keep up with these things just in case.

The weight limit you gave earlier back yes I think that's right for the top shelf with tv.I gave optimum a call to check. Does that weight apply to the middle and bottom shelfs as well?

I am just being really careful, I think I would have a heart attack if the stand collapased.

The glass on my stand is exactly the same for everyshelf. I could of used the top shelf glass for the bottom one.

One some stands the top shelf has extra bracing to help support the weight. Though probably not on yours - there, that's a further posting I've saved you

Just got the 4 screws to screw in on the same glass as on the middle and bottom.

hammill:Zubkabera:here in EU its available in all 40", 46" and 52" I spent hours comparing 47 9664 and 46 9704 and I must say 9704 is slighlt better then 47 9664 in producing deep dark black and accurate colours. But surprisingly its bit thicker then 9664 almost 1 an a half inch, LED based TVs are supposedly thinner like the Samsung 8000 series but may be I am wrong.
Last time I checked, the UK was part of the EU

We don't consider anyone part of EU unless they buy and sell in Euro

It is a myth LED screens are all supposed to be all razor thin.

It is a selling feature but not a 'unilateral' truth. With edgelit LED Televisions you are in theory using less bulbs than one that is totally backlit. The more bulbs used the better for control of the backlight for bigger screens. Another myth?

I find Samsung LED Teles to be horrendously dark on average looking scenes.I can aways pick them out from the pack of Teles on display. No thank you, I am sticking to LCD lit variants.LCDs lit Teles are stuffed with some mercury and violatile compounds in the paint job but it cost us less to buy.The idea we pay more for ECO friendly TV offends me! It all another excuse to get everyone to restock.

I am a little surprised that some forum members have not seen my postings on the Philips 9704 which I have been using now for 3 weeks.

As I explained before, I personally am very satisfied with this model. The LED locally dimmed backlighting gives incredible contrast. The blacks are really black and trhe whites dazzling. But like all Philips sets you have to be really careful calibrating and setting up. After 3 weeks I am still making some minor adjustments of colour brightness and contrast. Each of 7 the inputs has to be separately calibrated. For example my Humax Freeview recorder has different settings to my Sony BDP363 Blueray player.

Then there is the problem of "dirty window effect". Yes, this model does exhibit this effect. Personally I am prepared to put up with this minor defect as the quality of the picture is normally superb. It is only on football broadcasts that it is really noticible. I don't know if Philips can at some time correct this fault with a software download. I suspect that it is a hardware circuit design problem which may be designed out in a future model.

By the way, unlike the Samsungs this LED TV is not thin. Its actually 260mm deep which is thicker than the 9664. The weight is 33Kg. Measured power consumption (using my own Wattmeter) is 120W (130W with Ambilight on). This figure was obtained with the Lowest Power setting off. Compared to my old plasma this figure is 50% lower.

I though i read on the philips website the weight was around 22kg with the stand?

Thanks

Sorrry to correct you. I have the 40PFL9704 manual in front of me and the weight is 33Kg!

What do you mean by that? I asked this question on 22nd November, & I can see that you joined the forum on 2nd December. Secondly, people will continue to ask similar questions over & over again, because old threads get buried into deeper pages.

Also, the headline of your thread gives no indication of the TV model in question.

Does it feel that heavy then?

Because the philips website is clearly stating different.

I would also expect it to be lighter than given it's only 40 inches and it's an LED?

Thanks

Are you sure it's 33kg? My Pioneer 50-inch plasma weighs 31.5kg & it's 64mm thick. Plasmas are known to be heavier than LCDs of similar size & my TV is larger than yours. I think that's a printing mistake in the manual.

Gel is correct. It is 22.6kg if you check online.

Philips do print manuels for more than one model, are you reading the 46 inch one's weight?

Thanks
