Is this the 40 inch Bigboss?

Looks really nice, I tried to get info on this a 1 week back or so from the What hi fi team.

Can't see a review in time soon know.

Probaly be about 6 months time or so.

I think this LED-lit LCD thing has really confused a lot of people. When the actual LED does launch, it will obviously be more expensive than the LED-lit LCDs................I suspect that the technology to make commercially viable pure LED TVs for consumers will die an early death due ot this confusion.

This is a back-lit local dimming LED display, using a Sharp ASV panel. It will officially be launched by Philips in the UK in December. Price for the 40" will be £1799.99 and the 46" will be £2499.99.

I'm desperately awaiting a good UK review on one as I'm planning on the 40". Was originally wanting the larger size but I can't justify the £700 premium for 6 extra inches.

It's either the 40" 9704 or the 47" 9664 as they are both the same price - Spectra 3 Ambilight and the local dimming LED will be enough to sway me towards to 9704, rather than have the extra 7" of the 9664.

Hope WHF get one in soon to review!

Yep - the Philips 42PFL9704 is due tomorrow. The review will appear online here first - probably late next week (once we've finished off this issue!)

I was under the impression that the Philips PFL9704 was only going to be available in 40" and 46". Not a 42"? Correct me if I'm wrong. Regardless, I'm looking forward to the review.

Potential new Christmas present to myself.

You could well be right there! We were told 42in - wouldn't surprise me, however, if any manufacturer got confused with all the different sizes/model numbers in their own range

Andrew Everard:It's presumably the 40in model, then...

That's what I said at the begining of this forum.

And people think I should read the forum's before posting.

Correct, almost. Philips 9700 models available in 40, 46 and 52in sizes as you can read in our original News story outlining the entire 2009 Philips TV range.

here in EU its available in all 40", 46" and 52" I spent hours comparing 47 9664 and 46 9704 and I must say 9704 is slighlt better then 47 9664 in producing deep dark black and accurate colours. But surprisingly its bit thicker then 9664 almost 1 an a half inch, LED based TVs are supposedly thinner like the Samsung 8000 series but may be I am wrong.

Andrew Everard:46in 9704 25.4kg without stand, 29kg with

47in 9664 20kg without stand, 30kg with

according to the Philips website

I will be looking at getting a philips lcd about 40-42 inchs in the future and will be aiming for about 20kg in weight with stand if I can achieve it.
