New Floorstanders £300

Hi All,

Was with a friend last night who is after some good floorstanders for £300 to go with his Cambridge amp, he couldn't remember the model number, mind you I couldn't remember much either by the end of the night.

I have been looking this morning and have found;

Tannoy Mercury V4
Wharfedale Diamond 10.3
AE Neo V2 3

He only wants new, will not be demoing apart from when he goes to pick them up, does anyone have any other suggestions or recommendations with what he should go for, hoping some of you can help.

I am still looking for speakers and if anyone has seen an ex demo pair of D18's I would be interested,recovered from my dry rot and looking to get my speakers this month.

Hi,

Thanks for the heads up, have now found his amp is Cambridge Topaz 5 but he also has an old Arcam but doesn't know what it is at the moment.

He wants good bass and from reviews I am thinking maybe the Tannoys offer the best quality and can get for £300.These also may be a better foil for his Arcam than the others.

He says he wants a lot of bass so now thinking should he consider Wharfedale Vardus v400, they seem to be good value for the money.
Any help greatly appreciated.

The RRP of these used to be £450 and they are a steal at that price. I currently have a pair and had them running off of my Arcam Alpha 5+ amp and Arcam A65. I have even used them with a budget Sony amp and they still sounded good. Their only downside is that they are a little ugly and take a little while to run in before the real deep bass appears. Check them out on youtube and you can see the sheer size of these things, they have two 8'' bass, one 8'' mid and a liquid dome tweeter per cabinet, you do get a whole lot of speaker for your money.
