HI folks,

I'm a new user and would just like some info on the above package. I'm able to get it for around £1100 through superfi just now and it seems like a pretty good packeage for the money with 2 award winners in there.

The question really centre's around the speakers and for the overall package price are they good partners for the denon and the onkyo??

Any comments would be really gratefully recieved.

Many Thanks

Rob.

P.s the room size is about 3.5 meters accross by 7.5 meters long.

I have the denon 1930,Sony 3200Es and KEF 2005.1
Similar room dimensions to yourself.
Whilst the KEFs are very good, and very small.I do feel sometimes they need a bit more oomph. But then you move up to bookshelf dimensions and I`m afraid madam won`t allow that!

Looks good value, and for a newbie I think you`ll be well pleased

I'd say the speakers would let the DVD player and receiver down - especially in a room of your size - they lack the punch and passion to truly satisfy.

The KEF KHT3005SEs are a much, much better package - all the fire and flair is there - but appreciate buying them will cost extra. However, i'm sure a retailer would give you a package deal (if not at £1100!).

Hi,

thanks for the reply's folks.

If i can pick your brains for a moment more and disregard the package.

i currently have a panasonic th42px70 and would be looking add to this.

assuming the onkyo was a cert in the system and i would be really intereseted in buying a ps3 for it's varying abilities (my dvd's are nearly all region 2 so no real requirement for multi- region) what would be the speakers recommended to accompany this package??

As far as usage it would mainly be for movies only.

P.s Measured the room and it is more like 6.5 x 4.2 so sorry about that.Maximum budget for the dvd player (ps3) speakers and onkyo would be £1500 but preferably £1300ish.

All suggestions greatfully recieved.

Thanks again

Rob.

We've got a style speaker package Supertest coming up in our January issue (out 13th December) that could really help....

But if you're prepared to live with traditional-looking speakers, you'll buy a lot more sound for your money. So, for your budget you could have the PS3 (£300), Onkyo (£400) and Tannoy Mercury F1 Custom 5.1 (£799). I wouldn't spend much less on speakers, or you won't get the benefit of the Onkyo's power and ability.
