new av amp or not

Hi I have just ordered a new sony 46" TV and upgraded by Sky + to a HD Box, I currently own a Yamaha AV amp which is about 8 years old so has no HDMI connections but has two optical inputs.

Is it worth upgrading to a new amp with HD inputs or should I save the money and stay with my Yamaha

If yoiu connect the Sky HD box direct to the TV by HDMI, and connect the SPDIF to your amp you'll get Dolby Digital (when broadcast) which is all you'd get with a HDMI amp. So unless you particularly want an AV amp with HDMI video switching or plan to get a blu-ray player soon, there's probably no need to change if you're happy with the Yamaha's sound.
