I have just changed my 10 year old Yamaha A5 AV amp to a Marantz PM6003 Amplifier and upgraded my interconnect to the Chord CrimsonPlus. Even with my 15 year old Philips CD624 Player and Castle Ricmond Speakers I cant believe the improvement in the sound quality of my CDs.

Next step is too buy the Marantz CD Player, Upgrade my speakers to the MA RX6 and upgrade Speaker cable.....I'm expecting great things.

Its a far cry from my long term goals which is the Cyrus 8Xpd amp and 8SE player, but now I'm working for myself the upgrade path has to be more affordable and logical.....but I'm looking forward to the Journey 🙂

It's sounding to be a good se-up

With regards to you upgrading to the M/A RX^'s; make sure you get a demo first as IMO (and from previous demos) I feel that the Marantz amp wont drive the RX6's to their fullest ability.

The larger M/A RX2 standmounts or the B&W 685's would be a much better fit IMO. The RX6's do live a good power source to drive them well and IMO something along the lines of 70/80wpc minimum would be best.

You can probably do better than RX6s for the money. I'd be looking at Totem Dreamcatchers or Opera Mezzos since you already have the stands.

It all depends on what sound the OP is after as you cant really compare the Totems to the RX6's as just the bass weight of the RX6's alone will outclass the Totems in that respect.

I agree that a decent agile standmount speakers could be a good route to follow as the OP's already got standmount speakers but if he wants floorstanders then it's a different ball game all together

Hi guys,

Well the guy in the HiFi actually recommended the MA RX6 with the Marantz Amp and said it would more than happily drive them, although I will be partaking in a home demo before actually parting with any moolah.

As I said in my original post I do have a desired path of upgrade within the next 12 months......I like the MA RX6 with the cyrus gear, and would be looking to change the Marantz Amp and CD within twelve months to the Cyrus 8Xpd and 8SE to obtain the set-up I want longer term.
