Hi All,

I need some help. Am planning to get a A/V receiver which would be Pioneer SC-LX83 but I dont know which speakers I should go with this receiver.

What Hi Fi has recommended highly on Monitor Audio Apex (A10 x6, A40, AW12) as one of the most suitable speakers. However, I was thinking of a getting B & W XT Series (XT8 x2, XT2 x4, XTC and PV1).

My room size is 3.4m x 4.5m and my reqirement is to watch TV Programme, HD MOVIE and MUSIC (MP3, etc). So can the good staffs of What Hi Fi and fellow member tell me which of the above speakers should I choose for my room that fulfill my requirement.

Thank you and looking forward to your kind input on my un-resolved problem since last Dec 2010.

Regards

AC

Hi AC

As already mentioned, the Apex package goes very well with the LX83, and seems to be quite popular around here...

If you're looking at the XT package, that's between £4.5/5k, which is a considerable budget for a speaker package, and with this amount to spend, you should choose very carefully.

I've always found in the past that the best speakers for music are hi-fi speakers - lifestyle type speakers and speakers designed for movies just don't get close as there's too many compromises. On the flipside of that, I've always found hi-fi speakers don't match up to dedicated movie speakers for the same reasons. But, things seem to be changing. Manufacturers like KEF and ProAc have recently made pretty big steps at improving their loudspeakers - this is a result of technology filtering down from these companies building no holds barred 'concept' speakers. ProAc have suddenly become 'faster', and KEF have become more open and detailed.

Please do try the XT package and the Apex package, but also try out a KEF Q series package. I've replaced my dedicated AV speakers (>£5k) with KEF Q300's all round (

Do also try Monitor Audio's upcoming Gold GX series, bringing the sweetness of the ribbon tweeter to below £1,000. Again, this technology has filtered down from their Platinum series. Some of these new Gold models are slim enough for many to consider alongside lifestyle speakers. This package may work out slightly more than an Apex package, but will be less than your XT budget. Likewise, you can also try a B&W CM package as well.
