Hi grotton

In the context of your existing main components change the pre amp for one which will at a minimum bring it on par with the quality of the cd player and power amps.

Btw, what cables are you using?

All the best

Thanks Musicraft what Pre amp do you suggest ?Cable wise it is Voodoo cables all round (link here http://www.tnt-audio.com/accessories/voodoo_e.html). Plus I also have Wire world / Russ andrews mains cables and mains block. The CD also has the PXR fitted.

Thanks

Solid silver cables can give a bass light presentation, unless there is a lot of silver used, as in Atlas Asimi (very serious money).

Put good quality after market mains cables on all components, and replace every fuse inside and outside of your components(warrenty permitting) with Hifi Tuning fuses

Hi grotton

Thanks for your reply.

I am sorry for my late response as i have been very busy.

Anyway are you happy to also consider used/discontinued components?

All the best

Ok, two ways to tackle this. You're either looking at a speaker with a larger cabinet volume and larger bass driver, or adding a subwoofer. Both come with ther pros and cons, so it's down to you to decide which way to go.
Buying a larger speaker can bring it's own problems with room issues, whereas sticking with what you have and adding a sub means your speakers remain unchanged. It's then down to finding the best place for the sub to work well.
Adding a subwoofer means spending a bit of time tweaking it's crossover point. Get this right and things work well, get it wrong and it just sounds like a pair of speakers with a sub.
Getting larger speakers means that you need to choose the speakers with the right bass for you, whereas the subwoofer's volume in relation to the speakers can be varied to suit your taste.

I too recommend adding a decent sub.

I did this kind of by accident. My A/V amp went off for repair and on a whim I hooked up my sub to my stereo amp. Needless to say, 2 1/2 years later the sub is still connected to my stereo amp.

It sounds awesome. It'll put the biggest smile on your face if you do it well. 🙂

Seriously, get a decent subwoofer. Check out the Velodyne SPL range, awsome with music.

You can always send the Pre Vs back to your local Cyrus dealer for an upgrade at a later date. Not even Ron Jeremy goes deeper than a Velodyne SPL.

Hi VULPESDUBBUS

I feel grotton needs to look at an alternative makes of pre amp so that this component is at a minumum up to up the level of the cd player and power amp. Once a better pre amp is in place then (if need be) alternative speakers or the addition of a sub woofer can be considered which will then perform to an even higher level 🙂

All the best

Rick,

Why are you replying to me, I already have plenty of bass thank you. The Pre VS is a fine pre-amplifer, when he can afford it he can look at upgrading it to a DAC XP+, meanwhile the system will be greatly enhanced by adding a quality subwoofer such as the Velodyne where he will enjoy a greater sense of depth and scale. So, in summation I still feel a subwoofer is his best option, you are entitled to your opinion and I to mine.
