hi, I bought an arcam 75+ back in 2004 with a set of mission 773s all was good but we moved and the 773s had to go. I replaced the 773s with some linn bookshelfs and soon after lost all interest in my system. well we've moved on and the first thing I did was bought some rs6(after reading reviews) have to say, my arcam has never sounded better. I'm so impressed by these speakers I think they deserve a better amp. So after many reviews I'm down to cyrus 8xp and naim xs. I've tried to audition these but there's no suppliers in belfast. I've herd the rega elicit and loved it but its bit above my £900 budget. Pls help. Recommendations welcome

Hi Steven, and welcome to the forum.

Belfast is one of my haunts for Hifi, so will help if I can.

IMO. Arcam + MA are a great match, whereas Cyrus + MA would be a little forward sounding (for my taste).

You of course need to hear for yourself and Lyric Hifi are stockists of Cyrus, Naim, Rega and Arcam: http://www.lyrichifi.com/

FWIW. I would try and get a listen to the new Arcam A39 when it arrives, as I suspect it will give you the sound you are looking for. Why don't you give Michael a ring and discuss the matter...you can bring your speakers to the shop and see what you like....there's a lovely Deli next door that does great coffee.

Let us know how it goes.

EDIT. Sorry, just seen your budget...try the Arcam A19, which is much livelier than the previous A18.

Lol. The deli is great(yellow door?) lyrics were I herd the rega elicit. It's also where I bought most of my audio from but he didn't have the 8xp or xs2. Think your right tho I really need to hear them for myself. Especially the naim. Btw. Im looking at the second hand market and feel guilty auditioning equipment on a fals sale.

Hi,

if you liked the Elicit R, with your budget you've got to demo the Elex R.

Some times i've run my Brio R with MA RS1 and loved the combo.

Not suprised that you loss interest in your system with the Linn loudspeakers, i found them myself very dull...

Don't rule out the A19, or as has been mentioned above, the Rega Elex-R.....also, Michael has a variety of used stuff tucked away.

The other places to check out (you may know already, though not in Belfast), are Kronos AV, Moores and Ardhowen Hifi.

Let Michael know you are coming, so he can warm up any amps that might be of interest...and that he has the Rega in stock; then bring over your speakers and some favorite CDs and have a great morning. The MF is interesting and should in theory match....but I can't say for certain.

Hopefully you will report back with some good news.
