Hi Im hoping someone has the answer to my prayers.

I have just bought a Samsung LE40A756 LCD TV, I also bought a Samsung HT-Z310 Home Cinema kit as it was going cheap as part of the deal. I already have a PS3 and am now in difficulties on how to connect it all up!!??

I have x2 HDMI Cables and x1Digital Optical Audio cable. Do I connect the PS3 & HT-Z310 to the tv with the HDMI cables then connect the PS3 to the HT-Z310 with the optical cable?? Do I need to change the settings on the PS3 as well?? If anyone can help you would make my day!! Many Thanks.

If you have two optical sources and one optical input, then you will need a 3 way manual optical switch (see tvcables or maplins). If you route the audio via the TV, you will not get DTS/DD5.1 as the TV will only accept a 2.0 channel signal over HDMI (established during handshake) and the TV will only output 2.0 stereo. If you route the audio via the TV, the result will be a matrixed effect such as dolby prologic II.

You will need to set the PS3 to output audio as optical and bitstream. Leave all the boxes ticked by default.

Hi Smiley,

Sounds like you have all the required cables, and you are spot on with the way you are connecting them up.

Here is a link to the online PS3 manual which will help you to change the settings on your console so that they match your new gear.

http://manuals.playstation.net/document/en/ps3/current/settings/audiooutput.html

You need to select Digital out (optical).

On you samsung home cinema there should be a source select button (or similar) which will let you choose what you want to listen to, most manufacturers describe the optical connection as optical in or digital in, select this and you should be able to listen to your PS3 in surround sound.

Hope this is of some help.
