I am replacing my Technics SA-DX930 with one of the new/forthcoming Onkyo 606's.

I would also like to upgrade my speakers to a decent 7.1 system. They have got to be small(ish) around the size of the KEF Eggs if possible although the the front two (but not the centre) can be a bit larger if need be.

The rest of my system is :

Sharp Aquos 42"

Cambridge Audio DVD89 (SACD, DVD, DVD-A, DivX) player

PS3

XBOX360

XBOX (original)

Virgin V+ box (hi def)

The speakers are the only things I wish to replace (although a region A blu-ray player will be bought if the appropriate multi region fix does nto come out for the UK PS3's). My budget is a max of £1k inc. cables but would prefer spending about the £400 to £600 area.

Any suggestions welcome.

I have the Kef 3005 se and yes will cost you around the £999 price mark but worth every penny. truly superb.

Have you tried the Kef 1005.2 (black) they are really good too only £399 at richer sounds listen to them you may be well suprised. As for speaker cables go for the QED Silver anniversary ..do shop around as they start at £5.50 per mts but seem them in the what hifi mag as low as £4.89 may not sound much cheaper but when your getting 20mts or more it soon adds up..

Nice tv by the way i have the same but the 46inch.

Good Luck

The 3005's are something I am considering.

A couple of questions :

1) Do they play well at low volumes (eg. late at night)

2) Can you buy an extra pair of satelites to enable the 7.1 sound from the Onkyo?
