I'm still using physical media--LP for jazz and CD for everything else.
(I like the nostalgic vibe of jazz on analog vinyl, especially with a snifter of brandy.)
I also still use a terrestrial radio tuner as well.

Obviously, then, what I most need is a modern music streamer, but I'm an old dog who has trouble with new tricks.
Streaming seems too complicated for a luddite like me. I only use the 1990 flip phone functions on my cell phone.
Pretty bad, I admit.

Old dogs can be a master of new tricks!😉
Don't be afraid to make a splash with streaming, there's a whole community here, who'll guide you through 🤞

Unless I went for the complete system set up which I know will never happen I would say since my wife let me buy the Waxwing DSP phono at £462 I can honestly say that I have reach the point where I'm loving the whole set up I have for a long time in the future ... Except buying more records🎧🎼

Away from all the obvious things like speakers, amps and the like, I'd go with knowing the kind of sound that you like rather than the gear you think you want. When you know how you like to hear stuff, you're halfway there.
I thought I was the only one out there who thought like you are thinking 🙂 👍

I find these black round thingies relatively important.
Totally agree with you 🙂 there was a time when my brother was trying to convince me that CDs were the way to go 😏 so i went in that direction for 10 yrs or so but then when Vinyl records started to get talked about I realised that once arecord man always a record man 👍 so about 5yrs ago I made that decision that I loved my collection & have never looked back & with the cost of albums back in the 70s/80s there is not really that much difference with the cost of today.. & by looking at your collection I can see that you would also totally agree with me 🙂👍.

Sadly I convinced myself of that in the late 90s and stopped buying records... Until about 10 years ago, although not properly got back into it in the last three.

Well that's a also a funny one. It's a very good point but I found that idea can be ever evolving, rather than set in stone.

A couple of years ago, I got rid of a Denon amp I'd had for a few years, as I finally admitted to myself I'd never liked it much - I didn't find it involving. I realised I liked a bit of warmth in my sound - and disliked "clinical". So I bought a Marantz PM7200 and I fell in love with the smooth and lush tones. But then started craving more drive and detail and switched to a Rega Elex-R. That led me to thinking about upgrading my speakers for more revealing ones...

Then I started looking at headphones. I started with Sennheiser HD650 as they seemed a good fit - eventually landed on Focal Clear, which are really much brighter and less "warm" than the Sennheiser.

So at all effects, my preference shifted from warmth to detailed (implying neutrality and possibly a high frequency lift) in the space of a couple of years...

Not sure if it's just me, or if it is the result of "natural evolution", and getting more obsessed with SQ rather than "just listening to the music".
