Naim UnitiQute

Mmmm - I wonder who'll be attracted to this? Could understand if it retailed around £700 - £800 mark, would be within range of Arcam's Mini. Personally, if I was in the market for this all-in-one jobbie, I would buy the £2,000 Uniti.

Congratulations on the first 'too expensive' post, which seems to be the standard response to every new product announcement these days. And a totally different product to the Solo Mini.

Compare and contrast with the Linn Majik DS-I, broadly similar but twice the price...

and it does look cute!

I can see this being very popular actually - a much friendlier price point than the uniti and anyone who wants one already has a cd player.

I may have missed something, but the main issue for me appears to be the single set of analogue inputs to the rear. Limiting for those who already have both a deck/ext phono stage + cd player and wanted to add streaming/internet radio/new amp/downsize.

plastic penguin:I'm just struggling to think who might buy it and the possible impact it may have on their other products.

Well if nobody buys it, it won't have any impact will it?

"....a switchable bass contour for low-volume listening..."

Naim's first ever 'loudness button'?

Yeah, that was my second thought on the the product, right after "how do you pronounce it?"

Is it pronounced like cutie?

Isn't it cute! And the first 100 people to order get a free Qute dog instead of a remote control...

Is everyone missing the point here?!!

This isn't something somebody is going to buy as their main system. This will be purchased by owners of current Naim equipment, whether it be a normal 2 channel system, or an existing Uniti owner who wants to extend the system to another room.

At least they're addressing current trends unlike some companies.

Indeed, but where's the fun in getting the point...?

...but you're right, it's great to see some high quality systems like these coming out of a real hifi producer. Arcam were first in many respects and they paved the way. Musical Fidelity and Primare have had a go but they didn't seem to get anywhere. Perhaps Naim's sharper marketing will be a clincher.

Since we are currently doing an extension where we want to shift our broadband/music hub to ,I was seriously considering the Uniti but this particular unit would shave £600 off the investment .The cd unit in the Uniti would have been overkill anyway because of other available resources -so yes it does have a niche.

As Frank quite correctly says these will be for 2nd systems but why isnt there an unpowered version for existing setups

JohnDuncan:FrankHarveyHiFi:This isn't something somebody is going to buy as their main system. Oh yes it is. Just tell me the depth is less than 30cm and I'm there...

Apart from the depth info, didn't I just say that.

Ditching the Primare? You'll be craving for knobs after a week.....

Funny you say that. I have Naim gear and as soon as I saw the pic (never mind read about it) I was thinking of where it could go in my house. It would be a pretty nice second system.

At least someone sees the logic in the product - thanks RGD and James.

True Blue - would you like me to put 'David' in big font? Would that help?

JD - i suppose there are a few that don't like things too deep

I was going to say in my post that there is actually nothing wrong with it being a main system, as many 'streamers' tend to dislike using good old fashioned silver discs. But I thought I'd keep it simple.
