Had a bit of a family swap-around to help my ageing father to fit all of his HiFi and AV gear into one unit. So I've now got his unit, which has much less space than my previous similar unit which had less drawers but more shelves. So no room for the Marantz 66KI amp (too tall) and out comes the Cyrus gear again.

Another problem is I don't have room for my BD player in the unit. So I'm on the casual look out for something Cyrus-sized, which would fit in if I bunched the tuner, amp and PSX closer together.

Could you not put kit in the drawers and use one of those ir gizmos that lets you hide stuff and still use the remote?

Everytime i read one of your posts Major there is this millitary band sound,mainly trumpets, in the back of my head and i feel the need to stand up rather straight and pigeon chested..... :shifty:

No remote except for the tuner, of all things! 🙂 But even so, no, the amp/or PSX would overheat in the drawers. Tucked out of sight is a HDMI cable which I pull out from underneath when I want to use the BD player. But it won't stay like that for long. I'll come up with something. I usually do.

If you open the first picture in a new tab in your browser to expand it, you can just about make-out the HRT II+ DAC to the left of the Mac Mini, under the TV. And looking at it you can possibly see the one thing I hate about it. No matter which way round you face it, there's one cable or another sticking out, either the USB cable or the RCAs. I have it facing 'USB forward" so I can easily see the LEDs which tell me the frequency it's playing at. But I'd much rather all the cables were at he back.

The size of that display on the old Cyrus is brilliant! Actually a very neat looking setup 🙂 What is the max width you can accommodate for a BDP?

Yes it's got a great display. No mod cons like RDS, but the display is huge lol. As for the space available for a BD player, I've not measured precisely but I'm giessing around 20cm or thereabouts. Something like the Samsung BD-ES6000 would probably do, if I can find a good used one in black (I think they've been discontinued). The complete lack of any display on the machine is slightly offputting, but not a major deal-breaker.

Yes that's the BDP I had in mind. It was always pricey so £147 used on amazon probably isn't unreasonable. Not good value compared to what you can get new now, but obviously your choice is limited by space constraints. I assume you can't fit one of the small sonys there?

No I don't think so. I'm in no major rush to find a solution anyway. I don't watch many films, SWMBO mainly watches the TV or iPlayer etc on the Mac, and it's only a two minute job to plug-in the BD player if we really need it. One mains lead and one HDMI cable to the TV. The Cyrus 2's 'Video' input receives audio from the TV via the TV's analogue audio-outs, which like matte screens, seem to be dying features on newer TVs.

Yeah, only thing is, when I bought them I had more dark-wood furniture than light, now it's swapped round (or it's heading that way certainly) and they look kind of odd. But never mind.

You'd have thought Apple would add BD to the SuperDrive by now.

Apple has never embraced BD, for a reason I don't know, and their most recent products don't even come with an optical drive at all.
