Damn - cant help myself. A little room treatment needed? Nice looking room tho.

Now fill it with acres of foam sheet; Rockwool & softies 🙂

Cheers

Many thanks, not had a chance to photograph the rears yet as they have only just arrived and i am experimenting with position, will take some photos soon.

Re the room treatment there I don't think that would go town to well with the other half. I understand that it is not ideal, however there is a rug out of shot and soft cushions on the sofas to try to help soften the room.

Yup. Know what u mean. Check my links but my OH was well pleased with the results of my efforts on taming the bass. How much time do u spend in total darkness? 🙂

Re the rears, I did not have room for stand-mounts (more cm1s) as I have limited space behind my seating position due to the problem of my listening position being a little in front of a bay window so was keen to utilize the flexibility of the tripoles when it comes to positioning. Plus I managed to get them for a very good price which made the decision easier.

I am currently experimenting, by using them similar to column surrounds firing upwards behind my seating position to good effect so far, still early days though.

Each to his own. I really wouldn't want to sit looking at that while listening to music, and wonder how it sounds with all those hard reflective surfaces.

I find it really neat and I am sure it sounds lovely .The good thing is that there is a room for improvement acoustic-wise . As you said there is a rug about . You could add another matching-one , or just replace it with a bigger one. Don`t think your other half would mind about it. They love the rugs, don`t they... The speakers look the deal on those stands. Well done to you...

Good job! Looks like the altar of hifi/movies!

Are matching rears so important unless you're listening to SACD mutlichannel or DVD-A?

Much better to keep the OH happy.

Thank you for the kind comments. A new larger rug is on the agenda, its our first place so we don't have alot of soft furnishings yet (very much a work in progress).

Re the rear speakers I don't listen to any multichannel music so cannot comment, however for movies I find the MK tripoles at the rear are absolutely fantastic so far and a huge improvement over the jamo satellites they have replaced. they seem to blend into the rest of the set up very well.

Oh, loves it! Those B&W's are stunning looking speakers! Nice installation of your TV!

I'm all for that clean neat look myself. Acoustically it might need some assistance (just like my room does) but the look is wonderful. Have you experimented any with angling the front L/R?

Have you also got a Cyrus box in the top picture? Assuming this is a CD player or streamer? But then it's gone in the second pic 🙂

Re the cyrus, the second picture was an earlier one and did not have the cyrus at the time. It is a streamline that I was trying out (at the time of the photograph) and have since purchased a silver one for a silly price of £300 🙂 when audio t closed down. So far I have been pretty happy with it just facing the task of managing my digital music before i can fully appreciate it.

The speakers are slightly further back in the second photo aren't they? If you are able to pull them out when listening (the further the better) that would help with both imaging and bass. I have a friend with CM7's that he has to use closer to the back wall than ideal and the bass is definitively a bit loose. Not just a B&W trait, more laws of physics.

You might also experiment with toeing them in a bit to avoid reflections off the wall, particularly the right hand one.

Putting big cushions in the corners when listening might also help. If you don't like the look of them whilst listening or watching then put a better album / film on!!

Finally the support for the centre speaker isn't ideal (Ikea if I'm not mistaken). I had the same unit and it muddied the sound up a bit. You can't move it obviously, so maybe try putting something solid underneath the speaker. Start out with a simple flagstone to see if it makes a difference to the sound. If yes then either cover the flagstone in something nice to make it blend in or look for piece of granite or slate. I imagine you could fine something that would fit in with the clean aesthetic

Basically experiment a bit, speaker placement can make a big difference, even small changes, and you have the quality if kit to make the differences worthwhile. Hope this helps, and if your other half complains feel free to blame me!
