Okay guys...

This is my bedroom setup; a pair of B&W 685s, a Rotel RA04 amp, chord carnival silverscreen cable, chord crimson interconnect, an m-audio 2496 soundcard, streaming via Asio drivers from Foobar 2000, flac encoded music. a dual 505 in need of a new cart. anyway what do you think of setup / placement? the speakers are parallel to each other (the pic is a merged panorama because my room isnt big enough to get a whole photo) and about half a foot from the wall.

Hi, nice setup. It is good for the acoustics that you have not a completely flat surface with that black wood in the roof. But i would place everything a little more to the right/middle of the room if possible. Isn't it that your left speaker near the wall sounds slightly more dark, closed in and maybe bass heavy compared to your right speaker? Maybe you have a balance on your amp to experiment if it's so. If your room is small, then it think you would be sitting on your sofa or chair with your back at the wall right? If so, it could be a good idea to hang a wall carpet or something to break reflections there. What are the measurements of your room?

Cheers from Belgium.

Cheers guys!

Yeah, the right speaker does sound a little more bassy, but i'm not sure what I can do because there is a door that would open on to my left speaker if i moved it any further left :/

My own position is okay though I think because I sit on the side of my bed which is practically in the middle of the room.

I'm considering using the opposite wall of my room... it might give me a little more space, although will take a long time to move my bed and all my draws!

Thanks for the advice!

Maybe you should, it might be worthwhile soundwise.

Cheers! I'm relatively happy with my setup, but some slightly older music (e.g. Bob Dylan's Desire from '76) can sound quite shrill at times... (especially during harmonica solos and vocals). Is there any way I can reduce this? I've been listening about 15 to 20 hours now so the speakers may still be running in, or it might just be poor sources.

It should get a bit better when fully run in, i had my setup playing music for almost 2 weeks non stop to run in but one week should do with most components. If it's not a big problem it could be okay at the end of running in but it could also be just a poor recording if you don't notice it with most recordings. B&W + Rotel doesn't match bad, maybe slightly on the bright side but not to much. But room acoustics play a big role, if speakers are close to sidewalls you should at least place some acoustic treatment if you can't put the speakers more freely.
