I was hoping someone could help a novice with the below,…

Current set-up
- Musical fidelity X-A1
- Musical fidelity X-Ray CD Player
- Musical fidelity X-LP Phono Stage
- Monitor Audio BR1 Speakers

I’m thinking about adding the Musical fidelity X-P100 Pre-amplifier.

Here’s the question(s),…
- Will I be able to use the X-A1 as a power amp, rather than having to buy a new power amp (such as Musical fidelity X-AS100)?
- As the Musical fidelity X-P100 has it’s own phono stage, is my existing X-LP phono stage needed, would there be any benefits in still using it?

Many thanks.

I think you might struggle getting the XA1 to work with the preamp.
Why do you want to add a separate preamp?
It is, however, designed so you can add a separate power amplifier and use the XA1 as a preamp.
Like a lot of integrated amps it can accept a power amp but not the other way around.
Regards phono stages I would always recommend going with a separate unit.
You could sell the XA1 and go XP100 + XAS100 but I don't think this will gain you a lot.

Many thanks for the quick response.
Main reason for potentially upgrading to the XP100, is because I have an opportunity to pick one up on the cheap, and thought it might be worth it if I could use the XA1 as the power amp - based on your feedback, it doesn't seem worth the effort / cost & best to stick to the XA1 as the amp.

I think that's probably the best decision
