I was wondering what to listen to next. My favourite classical includes Shostakovich, Britten, Sibelius, John Adams, Rachmaninov and Janacek. I can't abide Bach, Mozart etc. I seem to prefer more modern stuff. I tried Birtwhistle, but find him a bit too abstract. I would appreciate suggestions of further composers.

I'd suggest exploring a couple more 20th century British composers.

Howard Ferguson - Piano Concerto, recorded by Peter Donohoe on Naxos

John Ireland - Piano Concerto, recorded by Kathryn Stott on Dutton Labs

I would also suggest exploring the Vaughan-Williams symphonies, available in various budget box-sets. They vary quite substantially in musical style and are very interesting works.
