Hi All,

I use spotify premium i love the service but recently some music seems to be disappearing, has anyone else noticed this? I hope they aren't in trouble.

It's more than likely to do with licenses/copyright stuff. I've had a few albums disappear from my Napster playlist, which is a pain because I can't seem to find them anywhere!

Yep, music licensing is complex as no one person owns the music. Music gets put up without the correct approval and another party involved has it pulled down when they notice. I've heard of tracks being put up on you tube by a major label, and then being pulled down by a different department of the same label. Madness.

Bit annoying, i hope apple bring out something similar soon, that would surely rid us of the whole issue.

Yeah it has happened to me more often that I could classify as "occasionally". Tracks stay in playlists but are unaccesible.

Bon Jovi's new greatest hits album dissapeared in its entireity but stayed as an off-line playlist on my iphone. Now random tracks have dissapeared.

Its rather frustrating as I otherwise I do love spotify

Well that and the occasional inconsistent drops in signal when playing via sonos.

Indeed, and you will pay handsomely for it, and get to play only that which Apple permits..

roger06:I read Spotify lost over £16m last year so how long will they be around at all?

It's pretty common for start-up business to lose money in their first few years, I think Clare mentioned in the last Spotify thread that they didn't plan on making a profit for at least 4 years.

As Paul and David stated, it is all to do with licensing. Spotify have had a policy from day 1 to play fair and respect license holder wishes and permissions. Others such as Napster which was an illegal site at first and Grooveshark who play music whether they have permission or not, but 'bank' royalties for when they do get permission, have had different policies.
